French Toast I

I enjoyed this basic french toast recipe. However, make sure the pan is completely hot before frying, because otherwise it sticks bad and you end up with a mess on your hands - like I did. :)

Orange Marmalade Bars

I did not enjoy these bars very much. First of all, the dough was really stiff and was difficult to manipulate. The recipe didn't make for much dough, in order to correctly fill my brownie pan, I needed to make a double batch. Then when the whole thing came out of the oven, it fell, and was pretty mushy on the bottom. Not very easy to cut and serve. The flavor of the marmelade goes well with the cookie-style dough; I think the recipe needs to work though to make the final product easier to handle.

Sand Art Brownies

These brownies are just really mediocre. I used only 1/3 cup of oil, like recommended, but I still felt they were really greasy! The flavor is just not that great; I guess that I just don't enjoy brownies made with powderd cocoa. I think homemade brownies turn out better when made with melted baker's chocolate.

Black Bean and Couscous Salad

This recipe has become a household standard. I've found that I enjoy the salad better after it has had time to sit overnight; the flavors seem to need time to mix together. I also added chopped tomatoes, omitted the green onions, and replaced the black beans with kidneys. This salad is one of our favorites - we serve it with lebanese flat bread.
