Traditional French Canadian Tourtiere

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2012
I made 1/8 of the recipe, for 1.5 pies. used Hot Water Pie Crust II (also from this site) The seasonings were well-balanced, the mix of beef and porc made for a good, moist pie.

Bagels II

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2012
Instead of rolling out the dough to form a rope and then a ring, I highly reccomend this: Make a small ball, making a hole in the middle with your finger (or thumb). twirl the dough around your finger - kind of like when you twirl a keychain or something when you're bored - until the bagel hole is the right size (a bit bigger than what you want your finished bagel to look like, they poof and close the hole a bit). I found that I would have an occasional bagel that wouldn't keep its shape making them the 'ropes and ring' way, and twirling is much quicker and more fun. :)

Chef John's Flour Tortillas

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2012
definitely the best tortilla recipe I've found so far (and I've tried quite a few). It rolled out nice and thin, but didn't tear when I lifted it off the counter, tasted great. I used lard instead of vegetable shortening - it was what I had on hand. Thanks for a great recipe with well written instructions.

French Toast Casserole

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2012
Used homemade sweetbread and brown sugar, doubled the recipe, forgot the topping, and it was still 5 stars! Doubling the recipe it only served myself and my 2 girls who kept asking for more. Thanks for a great alternative to traditional french toast

Caramel Apple Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2012
I didn't have any trouble mixing, but that might be because my homemade yogurt is more liquid than store-bought yogurt. As is, without the caramel sauce, it makes a great healthy snack. I did substitute a bit of whole wheat flour and added a bit of cinnamon because I really like cinnamon. thanks for sharing.

Avocado Pie

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2012
We have huge avocados here, and I got tired of always making avocado milkshakes. Spotted this and haven't turned back since! I agree that it needs to be a LARGE avocado (or 2 small store bought ones) to be good. It's become a family favorite. I make my own cookie crumble crust though since prepared pie shells are unavailable, but I'm certain that the pie shell would be delicious too.

Chocolate Pinwheels

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2012
Absolutely wonderful cookie. Quick to mix, rolled them, froze the dough and cooked them the next day. I rolled them between pieces of plastic wrap (no parchment paper on hand) and they rolled out PERFECTLY even without extra flour and didn't need to brush milk on - I forgot that step and they were fine. Since chocolate wasn't on hand I used cocoa and a bit of extra sugar as reviewers suggested. Definitely will double the recipe next time I make a batch.

Eastern European Kotlety

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2012
If you enjoy a plainer type of meat patty, then this is for you. I personally enjoy things with more flavor. I would try a recipe with a lot more seasonings next time.

Easy Passion Fruit Mousse

Just make sure the juice is unsweetened, it's one of my favorite desserts of all time - I usually just make it with the juice of one fruit.

Easter Eggs

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2012
really they were great, but only 4 stars bc the peanut butter half was rather too creamy and I ended up adding quite a bit of icing sugar to that half. Maybe it was just the type of peanut butter I used.

Chicken Caesar Pasta Bowl

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2012
Good fast meal. I substituted the cream of celery with cream of chicken and used homemade canned tomatoes (1c. including some liquid) since that was what I had on hand. Exactly what I was looking for.

Hong Kong Sweet and Sour Pork

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2012
Great recipe. To shorten prep time I just beat the egg directly over the pork, then placed the pork pieces in a bag to shake the coating. I also used only a tsp of oil in a non-stick frying pan to pan-fry the pork instead of deep frying.

Mom's Ranger Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 13, 2012
quick to make, and very tasty. To make clean-up easier, I simply mixed the first ingredients, then added the dry in the same bowl. It was a one bowl cookie. Added raisins since they were on hand. Kids loved them.
