About Me
I started cooking and baking at a very young age. I was 7 and just learning to read when I picked up my mimi's cookbook and made my first recipe, "Butterscotch Cookies." From then on there was no turning back. I love to try all varieties and ethnicities of foods and mastering specific dishes. So far, so good. I absolutely love to entertain and feed people, I just love to watch them eat and have a great time! I now have a new grandchild to care for and I'm looking forward to grandmother-hood :) When I stop cooking and trying new things, is when I stop living.
My favorite things to cook
Can't pick one, I love so many varieties and it always depends on my mood. However, I am always looking for something new and interesting to try. I also like to come up with my own ideas. I almost never follow a recipe exactly. When I look through recipes, I always look for something to inspire me to make my own thing.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Growing up in my family they always made typical french Canadian food. I remember my mimi used to do a lot of baking too. She had a pie tier that she'd fill up when baking every week. She was my inspiration for cooking and baking. We were always surrounded by family, friends and lots of really good mostly french Canadian food. While it was totally awesome eats, I broke away from that tradition because I got bored and wanted to learn everything about cooking. With such variety out there, why stick with one kind?
My cooking triumphs
I enjoyed many triumphs but the ones I especially like is perfecting ethnic food recipes. Recipes like Gyros with Tzatziki sauce. Toum which is a lebanese garlic sauce used in dishes like BBQ meats and shawarma sandwiches. I've even had my hand in making some Indian dishes like Malai kofta and Butter Chicken. Made my own hamburger and hot dog buns among many other bread. Even more recently my daughter and I have been making Korean dishes such as Korean lettuce wraps made with ground beef and Spicy Korean noodle soup among other things. There's simply no end to cooking triumphs so long as we keep experimenting!
My cooking tragedies
I've had a few, like accidently dropping the salt container into the pot, lol. There was one recipe where I completely forgot to add the flour and wondered why it never came together, I couldn't believe that one! I've had some experiments not turn out so well, my family would eat it but even I would not, hahaha. But that's how we learn as I believe in trial and error. I love reading other people's cooking tragedies, I laugh so much and it makes me feel like we are connected.
