Vegetarian Chili

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2010
This chili was awesome! I am newly Vegan so I do need to get used to veggie burgers. I could not find crumbled veggie burgers so I used a package of the patties I had in the fridge. I also only had 1 tablespoon left of chili powder so I put in a packet of taco seasoning, which I think made the sauce a bit thicker. Also only had 1 tablespoon of cumin, so to make is spicier I chopped up a jalapeno. Even my husband, who is an avid meat eater, ate a whole bowl after trying a few spoonfuls of mine. I was terrified to switch to a vegan lifestyle, but am so happy to find that there are delicious and filling options to satisfy any meat craving need. Thank you to the poster, you made my day!

Vegetarian Chickpea Sandwich Filling

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2010
This was AWESOME! I'm newly vegan so I swapped the mayo for Vegenaise, added a heaping tablespoon of crushed garlic like some of the others suggested and it was fantastic. This will totally satisfy my craving for chicken salad sandwiches, which I loved. Thank you!

Amazing - brought it to work for a friend's birthday (she's from the south) and I already gave the recipe to 3 people. Awesome!

Pleasant Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2011
I struggled between giving this 3 and 4 stars, so I would truly rate it 3.5. Three of those stars come from the chops - I always have a hard time with pork chops being too tough, and even with me using thin cut boneless chops I could cut them with a fork they were so tender. I also really enjoyed the seasonning. The sauce I did not like. I followed the directions to a T, but had to make some major variations as the end result was, in my opinion, like slurping watery sour cream. I added much more paprika than the recipe called for, a generous helping of black pepper, and about a teaspoon of tobasco to give it a bit of a kick which was perfect. My husband said it was even better today, and he would certainly eat it again if I made it, but I'm not sure that I will. The tenderness of the pork, A+, the sauce, D.

Better Than Best Fried Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2011
This chicken turned out very good. Frying with cornstarch is new to me, but makes the chicken super crispy, which is how fried chicken should be! I agree with other reviewers that the breading is just not seasoned enough. I thought that I really upped the seasoning, but even with a tablespoon of each paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, pepper, and a teaspoon of salt and chili powder it still tasted a bit too 'floury' for our taste. Next time around I think I'll certainly season the chicken a bit and up the seasonings in the flour even more. Overall a wonderful recipe, and my husband absolutely loved it!

Lemon Cream Cupcakes

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2011
The muffins had a good taste, and the frosting was AMAZING. My only complaint is that the frosting is way too thin - even after I cooled the cupcakes it literally melted all over the cupcake immediately after piping it on. I will use a greater dry ingredient to wet ingredient ratio next time I make these.

Sour Cream Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2011
I was not a fan of these pork chops. The sour cream taste was way too overwhelming, it truly overpowered all other spices. I would not make this recipe again.

Slow-Cooker Pepper Steak

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2011
If I could give this more than 5 stars, I would. There is not a single thing I would change about this recipe, and if my husband had it his way I would make it multiple times per week. Absolutely wonderful, thank you so much for sharing.

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2011
This soup is awesome. I made the mistake of thinking it could use 1 more tablespoon of flour and it turned out SUPER thick - which I love my cream soups thick, but I should have just followed the recipe. I didn't make any bacon, which this would have been awesome with, and what I especially love about it is that it would be so easy to replace the ham with clams and it would be an awesome clam chowder. Thank you for sharing this recipe!

Beef Barley Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2011
AWESOME!!!! So, so good. I didn't have a 16 oz bag of mixed frozen vegetables, so I used half a bag of frozen corn and half a bag of frozen peas. This turned out absolutely awesome and my husband loved it - thank you for posting!

Grilled Lemon Herb Pork Chops

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2011
This was very good - we ended up making it with a pork loin instead of pork chops, and yum! Doubled the marinade, bagged it up and let the pork loin soak overnight. Put it in the crockpot around 11 and cooked it on high for 5 hours. I strained the marinade after it was done and put it in a saucepan with 1 TBSP of cornstarch mixed with a bit of the lukewarm marinade to mix into the pot, then 1 TBSP of flour with a splash of cold milk mixed and poured into the pot. It made the perfect gravy/sauce to pour over the pork and mashed potatoes. Pork to me is always a bit dry so we rarely serve it, but this was very good and we will definitely make it again.

Irish Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2011
This was awesome. The only thing I would change is to add another can of cream of chicken soup and 1.5 more cups of water, if not double the liquid in the recipe altogether as about halfway through the liquid was completely gone. I'm still rating this 5 stars because it was THAT good, and needing to cook up some more liquid for tomorrow's leftovers is a minimal extra step to having it again. I also agree with other reviewers in that the dumpling recipe should be cut in half - I only used half the recipe in my large soup pot, and the dumplings took about 30 minutes to cook because they all clumped together. Even with the changes I mentioned above this will become a staple in our house - thanks so much for posting!

Honey Baked Chicken II

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2012
I really liked this - I cut the 'marinade' in half (didn't realize I only had 1/2 a stick of butter left!) and used 3 boneless skinless chicken breasts. Served it with brown rice and crescent rolls. I tossed some milk and cornstarch into the sauce after the chicken was done to thicken it up and poured it over the chicken and rice. My husband unfortunately was not a fan, which is disappointing because I thought it was very good! The reason I didn't rate this 5 stars is because it didn't blow me away, and it won't become a staple in our household, but I think it was definitely worth making and I personally would love to have it again.

Hamburger Steak with Onions and Gravy

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2012
My husband LOVED this! Super easy to do, and I already had all the ingredients on hand so it was truly a no-fuss meal. I started making it at 6, and at 6:53 I am laying on the couch STUFFED and writing this review! We served them with mashed potatoes, and because of that the only thing I would change for next time is to double the onions and gravy as we positioned the meat on top and poured the sauce over everything. Thank you for posting this!

Meatball Nirvana

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2012
I hate to admit that I wasn't crazy about this recipe. I doubled it, but only used enough onions for 1 pound and still felt it was a bit much. If I were to make these again I would used the spice dried minced onions or chopped onions, probably 3-4 TBSP. The spices all together were good, and I used the recipe for meatball subs with garlic french bread. For those that love onions, I do too. I cooked the meatballs for 25 minutes, and the onions were still a bit crunchy when finished. They just weren't the best I'd ever tasted.

Amish White Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2012
Meh. Not sure if I should be blaming how the recipe was posted or how allrecipes corrected the ingredients per serving size requested, but I attempted to do 12 servings instead of 24. When following the recipe the way it was suggested it was way too wet to the point that the consistency was comparable to pancake batter. I added probably 1-2 more cups of flour to get the dough going and I think that may not have even been enough. I let the bread rise for 2 hours the first round and 1 hour once in the bread pan. Once in the oven it didn't rise very well, I'd say the height was probably 1/2 as high as a normal loaf of bread. It was pretty yeasty and very sweet. 30 minutes was also not enough baking time - there were pockets throughout the loaf that were not fully cooked. I've baked quite a few loaves of bread so I'm not sure it was my fault how it turned out. My husband said he liked it, and I'm certainly going to eat it, but I'm not sure I'd make it again.
