Savory Cheddar Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2010
I added some extra spices and more cheese. I'm afraid it would have been a little bland otherwise. Easy to adjust to your tastes!

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Very dense and flavorful. I like my cornbread dense and sweet and this fit the bill. I couldn't stop snacking on it. So easy too!!

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2010
Delicious, moist and perfectly spiced. I have also made with half brown and half white sugar and that is equally good. Sometimes I also sub half whole wheat flour which also works great. Perfect recipe, as is! I also usually make in two 9 by 5 loaf pans and bake for about an hour!

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2010
Amazing. My husband said it is the best apple pie he's ever had. I added a pinch of cinnamon to the apples (just personal preference). I also was too lazy to make the lattice crust so I poured 3/4 of the caramel over the apples, then put the top crust on, then spread the rest over the top crust that I had perforated with cute little designs. Delicious and beautiful. I used my grandmothers pie crust recipe becuase I can't stand the store bought stuff!

Jay's Signature Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2010
Good, easy and makes a generous amount. I have also added half whole wheat flour and got good results. I usually use about a third of this recipe and press it into a 9 inch cake pan to make "pan crust" pizza and then press the rest into a jelly roll pan for a thinner crust. I oil the pans well and dust with cornmeal.

Four Cheese Margherita Pizza

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2010
Very, very good and easy! Marinating the tomatoes gives an extra depth of flavor, and the oil is really flavorful. Plus, such simple ingredients! I shredded my own cheeses and added provolone just becuase I had some on hand. Also, I used Jay's Signature Pizza Crust recipe from this site.

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2010
These are good, but I just didn't find them anything special. I prepared exactly as written (except for extra vanilla but that's just my taste)and chilled the dough for a few hours because my kitchen runs hot. They taste good but they didn't bake up like I expected (or like I like). I lowered the oven temperature to 325 after a couple of batches and that helped. They do stay soft for a very long time. This recipe makes a TON.

Slow Cooker Carnitas

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2010
Really good. I didn't have coriander (didn't realize until the last minute) and it was still good! I did double the spices and put in the oven to get them crispy. They were delicious right out of the pot though! Served on corn tortillas with guacamole, chopped tomatoes, shredded lettuce, salsa, and low fat sour cream.

Mom's Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2010
Sooo easy and really delicious. I made jumbo muffins so that they were easy for my husband to grab and take to work and also because I am in between loaf pans. I added a little more than two cups of zucchini because I just grated until it looked about right and then I didn't want to waste any once it was grated. I also peeled the zucchini first so there were no green bits (personal preference, obviously). The only variation for me was that I added about a teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice, but it didn't need it!

Incredibly Cheesy Turkey Meatloaf

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2010
My husband said this is the best meatloaf he has ever had. He had no idea it was turkey and couldn't have cared less. He was skeptical as I was taking it out of the oven, but after one bite he was raving and already planning what to do with the leftovers. I added some onion and garlic that I cooked on the stovetop to softed (about 1/4 white onion and 2 tbsp garlic) and I did soak the breadcrumbs in the milk. I also used shredded cheddar because that's what we had, but I am looking forward to trying the cubes. I made a glaze of ketchup, a few splashes of worchestershire, a little yellow mustard, and a pinch of brown sugar. Served with green beans and roasted sweet potatoes.

Mediterranean Puff Pastry Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2010
I made this last night and it is delicious and impressive! My husband and I both really liked it. For presentation I put the chicken and ingredients in the middle of the piece of pastry. Then on each side in the middle of the piece I cut strips (about 1/2 inch from the piece of chicken) so when I folded it over I criss-crossed them on the top making it look braided almost. I closed in either end because I didn't want it oozing and just did this along the top and it made for a beautiful presentation!

Yummy Honey Chicken Kabobs

Sooo good and light. I added some pineapple and marinated everything together for about 4 hours. I cooked in a pan under the broiled because I forgot skewers when I went to the store. Delicious leftover too. Served with rice.

Caribbean Grilled Crab Cakes

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2010
I didn't care for all of the herbs in the salsa, I thought they overpowered the taste of the mango. Overall a delicious dish thought. The crabcakes were good on their own too. My husband ate them the next morning with his eggs!

Cake Balls

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2010
These are so good and easy. They look very impressive. It makes a lot, but they will disappear fast. Time consuming with the dipping. I kept mine in the freezer before dipping which helped. I have done several variations. Most recently I did a german chocolate cake and mixed it with homemade coconut pecan frosting. I dipped these in milk chocolate.
