Fragrant Chicken Curry

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2010
A huge hit in my house. Made "as directed." My seven-year-old daughter absolutely loved it (I did swirl some sour cream into hers to help cool it down). She said that I should fill the bathtub with this so she could dive in. Seriously, she said that. I couldn't make it up! Even DPIAH liked it. They said they want it every week. Served with basmati rice and nan. Thank you soooo much!

Easy Chicken Enchiladas

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2010
Excellent recipe as is, but I also make it with enchilada sauce if that's what I have on hand. Also, I think this recipe is what rotisserie chicken was made for! Very, very satisfying and comforting food.

Holy comfort food, Batman! I have been looking for a good comforting meal like this for a while. Delicious, but salty.

My Crab Cakes

Great recipe. I had no idea crab cakes were so easy. I have made this a number of times over the past month, and I change things around according to my mood, but the original is very good and definitely worth a try!

Chocolate Brittle Surprise

This was so easy I thought it couldn't possibly be good, but needless to say, we munched on it all week long! A fun and easy way to satisfy a baking/sweet craving without needing a lot of ingredients or making a big mess.

White Cheese Chicken Lasagna

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2010
I so loved this lasagna, and so did my somewhat picky husband, who loves lasagna but can be iffy with new dishes. I used rotisserie chicken, which made it so easy. Everything else I followed exactly, though I might have thrown another garlic clove in there. I love how well the lasagna sets up nice and firm but not dry. Also, I love using chicken stock with the milk to make the cheese sauce -- brilliant! Can't wait to make again.

Clam Sauce with Linguine

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2010
My husband has requested this about 5 times in the past 2 weeks. It is so easy, I have no problem fulfilling his request! I don't know why anyone would bother with canned white clam sauce when this is so delicious and sooo easy. I sometimes put a dollop of sour cream in at the end if I have any in the fridge for a richer sauce, but it is great as is, too. And so cheap!

Mama's Italian Wedding Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2010
I can't believe how good this came out. Followed ingredient list exactly, except I added some salt and pepper to the broth. Pre-cooked the pasta, which made the end result much better--just threw al dente pasta in the soup right before serving. My very picky husband was so thrilled! I always known he likes something if he says, "On a scale of one to ten, how difficult was this to make?" That means he wants me to make it again and again.

Homemade Black Bean Veggie Burgers

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2010
I made with ingredients exactly as written, except I used a potato-based egg substitute due to an egg allergy. My 7-year-old daughter and I loved these burgers! My husband, not so much, but I would have been shocked if he did. Don't go by him, though. I baked the burgers, and they kept their shape beautifully, perhaps because I took the advice of others and made sure the beans and the onions were well dry before mixing. I had a couple left over, so I froze them. Had a frozen one today, and I think it was even better! Will definitely make this again.

Cherry Coconut Bars

Wow -- this is so easy and delicious and pretty. The perfect thing I was looking for to round out my Christmas-cookie routine. I did add a few dark chocolate chips because I love the taste of chocolate-coconut-cherries, but the recipe would be just as delicious without the chocolate.

Hot German Potato Salad III

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2006
Terrific! I make this for all my family get togethers, including kids' parties. I do prefer it without the celery (I've made it both ways). I usually use fewer potatoes than the recipe calls for, and there is always plenty to go around. I also add a bit more bacon if I have it on hand.

Focaccia Bread

This came out great in my bread machine (yes, you need to proof the yeast first) and made the best pizza crust I've ever made. It makes the perfect amount for a standard pizza stone. I use "Jay's signature pizza sauce" from this site. Mmmmm!

Eileen's Spicy Gingerbread Men

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2006
Just okay. I agree that too much cloves leaves an aftertaste. Dough is sticky --I'd add another 1/2 cup of flour. Separate the dough into 3 small amounts to chill. Don't overbake because the cookies'll dry rock hard. Had a hard time not overbaking because they were so soft and looked raw in the middle, but the ones I removed on time cooled perfectly soft but not mushy. My cookies spread, & my Better Homes & Garden cookie mag says it might be caused by using margarine w/ "less than 80 percent vegetable oil" and putting the dough on hot cookie sheets. BH&G says your margarine should be at least 100 calories per T. I didn't know that about the hot cookie sheet either, so next time I'll alternate sheets. I love the idea of rolling the dough on parchment, cutting the shapes, removing scraps, & baking on the parchment. I prefer the Joe Froggers recipe on this site, which is easier to roll, eggless, uses shortening (which doesn't compete with the spices), and 1/2 as much cloves for 2x as much flour! But I do like the cinammon in this recipe so I'll add some to my Froggers. Also, just FYI for anyone getting psyched to make gingerbread cookies this season, my Better Homes & Garden cookie mag says this about dark vs. light molasses: "When describing molasses, light refers only to flavor, not color or calorie or sugar content. Light is sweet in flavor. Dark molasses is not as sweet but has a distinctive robust flavor. Light and dark are interchangeable in recipes."

Taco Salad II

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2006
I am a total beginner cook -- completely clueless -- and I don't knwo what I'd do without allrecipes.com! I was craving taco salad, and this was exactly what I wanted. It was a big hit with my husband, too, who looked skeptical when I told him what was for dinner.... I used "Restaurant-Style Taco Meat Seasoning" submitted by GVSWIFE on this site for the meat (delicious!) and, as other's recommended, "Aunt Betty's French Dressing" by Maggie Lynch. I left the onions kind of chunky in the dressing (my blender broke), so I omitted onions from the salad. I also added some black olives and kidney beans because my daughter loves them. I think this salad was so good I will proudly bring it to the next family function potluck. (I heeded everyone's advice NOT to refridgerate it overnight) Thanks!!!

Sugar Cookie Icing

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2004
This is the best recipe for shiny, colorful sugar cookie icing if you follow the advice of the other reviewers and fiddle with the ratio of dry to wet ingredients. I also only use vanilla extract -- for some reason, the almond extract was really yucky the one time I tried it.

Joe Froggers

THE BEST. My 4 year old son has autism and is very, very picky -- he won't even eat chocolate chip cookies or cake. Whenever I want to bake him a treat, I turn to these cookies, which he inhales. It's a bit time consuming, and you have to plan ahead a little, but the results are so yummy. I give these out at Christmas in shapes of trees and bears and moose. Will hold their shapes even if cut really large. And the house smells wonderful afterwards!

Balsamic Tortellini

My husband and I LOVED THIS. I'm a very inexperienced cook, and my new year's resolution was to cook a lot more. This couldn't have been easier, and the taste seems sophisticated, to my inexperienced palate. I would even serve this to my mother in law, if she weren't a heartless hag!

Chicken Tikka Masala

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2004
Wonderful and spicy. I'm a new cook, and this impressed everyone at my Oscar party! Made it the day before and served over jasmine rice. Just like the Indian restaurant. Follow advice about not using all the salt in the recipe--I just used a pinch whenever any salt was called for. I added a can of coconut milk, followed by a can of tomato paste at the very end to thicken it up a bit. I can't wait to make it again -- in fact, I think I'll make it tomorrow, and I'll triple the recipe to freeze the leftovers. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
