I am a Christian, married woman with a wonderful, loving husband and two beautiful (inside and out) grown children. I adore cooking and wish I could spend more time doing it. I love to shop for, cook, and taste new and different foods. When I am cooking, I feel like I have escaped to my happy place in life. I love to chop, mince, puree, stir, mix and experiment. I spend most of my time when I am not working at my full time job, in my kitchen. I am also a voracious reader and adore playing word games like Scrabble or Words with Friends. I also enjoy sewing and machine embroidering home items like curtains, tablecloths, table runners, and placemats.
My favorite things to cook
I love to make comforting soups and cold summery salads (from potato salad to veggie salad). I love to make anything where I don't have to measure and I can just add a pinch of this and a dab of that. I think it makes for the best food.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Spending several days making numerous varieties of cookies at Christmas with my mom, my sister and my daughter. All three generations covered in flour, licking their fingers and listening to Christmas Carols.
My other favorite tradition is on New Year's Eve, we have a feast highlighting a different ethnic theme, such as Greek, Italian, Indian, etc. where everyone bringing a unique potluck dish.
My cooking triumphs
Every day when my family sits down to a meal and they tell me, "This is soooooo good, you should open a restaurant." I know that they are just being kind but it makes me feel appreciated. Cooking delicious home cooked meals is one of the ways that I express my love to them.
My cooking tragedies
My most memorable cooking tragedy was my first Thanksgiving dinner after being newly married in my new home with both of our families coming to dinner. I had ordered a fresh turkey from the butcher and unbeknownst to me I was not supposed to leave the innards (neck, liver, heart, etc.) inside the cavity. It was quite a surprise to my guests and an embarrassment to me.
