I enjoy reading books which feature both recipes and the history behind the food and how it relates to the culture. For instance, there are a wide variety of books available which explain the history of "Tex Mex" cuisine; how it evolved in San Antonio and changed over the past hundred + years.
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy all types of Mexican cooking, grilling and smoking outdoors, Italian including salads, pizza, and pastas and sauces. I also like to experiment with other cultures' foods such as Cajun, oriental, and some Carribean island foods; anything with a little spicy "kick".
My favorite family cooking traditions
Chili Con Carne the original way with meat and onions and spices with a few tomatoes. Nothing fancy... maybe a few beans and onions on the side.
My cooking triumphs
Stuff I'm actually able to eat!
Mostly reading a number of recipes and creating my own versions from others' ideas.
My cooking tragedies
I tried to smoke a Thanksgiving turkey in the remote mountains of New Mexico. Charcoaland wood turned out to be damp so I couldn't get a proper fire. Cooked the turkey by pieces in the microwave. Yuuck!
