I've been cooking since I was 9, baking since I was 12. I love to experiment and make my husband smile when I feed him something he swore he didn't like only to find that he hadn't had it presented well.
My favorite things to cook
Greek food is my favorite, I love homemade gyros/tzaziki and pastitsio.
I love to bake and have been known to go on a baking tangent to the pleasure of my neighbors.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Ha, spaetzel, polish, kraut and dumplings.
Hungarian squares, pies - i love any kind of pie.
Kolackys and almond cookies are holiday traditions.
Lamb for easter (on the grill - yum!)
Soda bread, grandma's raisin cake all of these take me to a place in my childhood.
My cooking triumphs
The perfect cheesecake
The perfect cheese souffle
(not easy in the humid south)
Canning our garden spoils with my husband next to me
My cooking tragedies
Well we can start with my famous 7 day stew. I was 17 and the onion cooked the first day, the potatoes the third day, the meat the fourth and the carrots the 7th.
And then there was the tragic day I made quiche for a birthday party VERY hung over.
Used store bought crusts to save time and never took the paper liners out, put the egg mixture in and baked the lot. Many laughs that day.
And the thrice salted deviled eggs - senility kept telling me I'd neglected to salt at all so I salted again!
(I seem to recall alcohol playing a part in this issue as well)
