Roasted Rack of Lamb

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2014
So good ! If your rack has a lot of fat trim it down a little so that the searing and high oven temp doesn't cause excessive smoking. Let the meat come to room temperature and check for the degree of doneness with a decent thermometer , mine took slightly longer than I expected. This is great for just a family meal or a party as once the racks are seared they can all roast in the oven together. Such a treat!

Chef John's French Fries

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2014
Followed exactly and the fries were great. I used my electric frying pan to make adjusting the temps easy. It wasn't messy, really no splatter. I strained the oil to reuse. Thanks for the recipe!

Ultimate Twice Baked Potatoes

Reviewed: May 7, 2014
Made these for a family dinner to go along with steak. Everyone thought they were great! and they were very easy to put together, just leave a lot of time to bake your very large potatoes (400 degrees for mine took a little over an hour). I did use a plastic bag to pipe the potato back into the shell and I did taste the filling adding just a little more salt before the second bake. Would definitely make again!

Seasoned Swai Fish Fillet

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2014
I thought this sauce was very good and you could pour it over just about any fish and it would taste good. A note about Swai for those who are wondering about this fish. This was on sale for $5.88 for a 2lb bag of frozen fillets so I thought I would give it a try. I came home and Googled it and frankly, I was kind of scared as there is some pretty non flattering info about this fish. People who don't like fish like this one because it doesn't taste like fish, in fact I had a hard time deciding if it tasted like anything at all? So yes, it is very mild and be prepared for a slightly mushy texture. I might buy it again because it is very inexpensive and my boys liked it. I honestly haven't decided but I would definitely use this simple lemon, butter(yes, butter, I never use margarine) sauce on any fish with the same good results. Hope this is helpful and oh, if you are a cilantro hater chop up some italian parsley in its place.

Naan Bread Margherita Pizza with Prosciutto

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2014
In the oven in literally a couple of minutes and very good given how easy it is. If you don't have prosciutto use a little bacon or ham or whatever you have in the fridge. My sons liked this a lot and I liked just having the sliced tomato instead of a pizza covered in sauce.

Awesome Spicy Beef Kabobs OR Haitian Voodoo Sticks

Reviewed: May 13, 2013
5 stars if you like heat, I doubled the recipe and followed exactly (without adding salt) and it was great! 6 people ate everything. I recommend serving this with a cooling cucumber sauce like raita to counter act the spice. will definitely make again!!

Chef John's Perfect Prime Rib

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2013
This recipe definitely produces a medium rare end result but I didn't like that the meat was room temperature when I took it out of the oven after the two hour's. My husband sliced it up and I had to pop it back in a hot oven to warm it back up. I don't know if it was worth the roast hogging the oven for two hours so that nothing else could be cooked with it. Good flavor overall

Spicy Shrimp with Bang Bang Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2013
I wouldn't have tasted the BANG! if I hadn't added a lot more Sriracha than called for. I did use the oven bag because I had one lying around but I don't think it is necessary at all. This would cook just as well on the stovetop in a skillet or on a sheet pan in the oven. Everyone liked it !

Simple Beef Pot Roast

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2013
I thought this was good. Followed the recipe exactly. Used a 3.8lb chuck roast. Do not need to add any liquid there will be plenty!! The sauce is very watery so if you like it thicker,(more like gravy) you will need to thicken it. I let mine cook the entire 3 hours but I think it would have been done at 2 and a half. At 3 hours it was falling apart (which is ok with me). Thanks for a nice pot roast recipe!

Slow Cooker Butter Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2012
Very good, the house smelled great. I was able to find everything I needed at a local Indian grocery store and price for the spices was considerably better than my regular store. I used 2 extra chicken thighs and I am glad i did, this made a lot of sauce! I was heavy handed with the spices and the only change I made was to add a couple shakes of cayenne because we like spicy. Will make again!! thanks for the recipe!

Scrumptious Salisbury Steak in Mushroom Gravy

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2012
This was good. I doubled the meat mixture because one lb of ground beef was never going to feed 6 at our house. No need to double sauce, there was a lot! Serve with mashed potatoes or noodles or something to soak up gravy. Begining cooks note: make sure to cook your flour for a minute or two so that your gravy doesn't have a raw flour taste. This was comfort food and I would probably make this one again.

Lemon Chicken Piccata

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2012
I love lemon but this was a LOT of tartness. It was okay but I think I will go back to my Piccata recipe I usually use. Served over egg noodles, it wasn't a total flop I just wouldn't make it again.

Easy Mediterranean Fish

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2012
I thought the tomato mixture was very nice but the fish was so bland! maybe because we are used to eating more flavorful types of fish like salmon. I had to keep adding more seasoning. I won't make this one again.

Uglies

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2012
they were pretty much just what i expected. very easy, fairly ugly and the kids liked them. I can't imagine this recipe feeding 8, because my sons wanted several... Sort of like having a football snack for dinner, but if you add the salad as suggested I guess that makes it more complete. will probably make again, but will increase recipe depending on how many people are eating.

Homemade Laundry Soap

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2011
I was skeptical as I am pretty picky about my laundry. I looked in the water, NO suds, NO bubbles, how is this working? but somehow it is. My husband asked what I was making the other day and I told him homemade laundry soap. He started humming the 'Beverly Hillbillies' jingle and called me Granny Clampit (spelling?). He asked me if I hadn't better make that out by the 'cement pond' ha ha. We both appreciate saving money! Thanks for the recipe Baking Nana!!

Slow Cooker Turkey Breast

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2011
The hardest thing about this recipe is trying to fit the turkey breast into the slow cooker so be mindful of that when purchasing. After that I dont know how anyone could mess this up~ I added onions to the bottom and chicken broth and smashed a little butter on the bird but thats because i just do stuff like that, I am sure this would be very good if you just follow the directions. Mine was falling apart but still moist so check periodically during the end of cooking time if you want it to come out of the pot in one piece.
