About this Cook
Mommy of four. Lost my interest in cooking for a short time when the babies were young and largely picky eaters. Thankfully, their tastes grew as they did and now are fun to cook for. My husband has never been picky and taught the kids to appreciate my efforts even though they did not always appreciate the food.
My favorite things to cook
Everything savory, I am not into sweets (much to my childrens dismay).
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving is our favorite holiday, I start thinking about it well before the actual day. Love Christmas breakfast too (including the champagne:)). Now that the kids are older my new favorite tradition is Sunday lunch with my grown (moved out) daughter and Sunday dinner, all six of us! My family also extends to my good group of friends. We get together for a home cooked dinner about two times per week... way less expensive than going out to eat and the food is just as good (or better)!
My cooking triumphs
Making tamales for my friends "I just got my green card party". This food is a labor of love and I see why it is generally considered a 'party food' in Mexico. Also pulling off a really good, tradtional Thanksgiving while in a studio apartment kitchen in the midst of very BAD morning sickness!
My cooking tragedies
Gave up trying to make sugar cookies years ago, they always come out too crunchy.

Roasted Rack of Lamb
So good ! If your rack has a lot of fat trim it down a little so that the searing and high oven temp doesn't cause excessive smoking. Let the meat come to room temperature and check for the degree of doneness with a decent thermometer , mine took slightly longer than I expected. This is great for just a family meal or a party as once the racks are seared they can all roast in the oven together. Such a treat!

Chef John's French Fries
Followed exactly and the fries were great. I used my electric frying pan to make adjusting the temps easy. It wasn't messy, really no splatter. I strained the oil to reuse. Thanks for the recipe!

Ultimate Twice Baked Potatoes
Made these for a family dinner to go along with steak. Everyone thought they were great! and they were very easy to put together, just leave a lot of time to bake your very large potatoes (400 degrees for mine took a little over an hour). I did use a plastic bag to pipe the potato back into the shell and I did taste the filling adding just a little more salt before the second bake. Would definitely make again!
