About this Cook
Old body with a young head! Retired and love it. Cooking and recipes a hobby for lotsa years and enjoying a rejuvenation of interest with the entrance of a new barbeque-that works!
My favorite things to cook
Depends upon the season, what's in the refrigerator and what cooking show I watched last night.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Lefse at Christmas and Thanksgiving. Can't do either holiday without it. Have been making it for years and last years present to me was a new lefse iron. Sure is easier than a frying pan!
My cooking triumphs
Every compliment or smile after eating something I've cooked or baked is a triumph. I DID win Betty Crocker Homemaker of the Year in...1955!
My cooking tragedies
Unfortunately, too many to describe. My dog buried my first attempt at buns and have made more than one 2 inch(from scratch)angel food.

Hawaiian-Style Sausage and Rice
To MargeGC who wanted a little more zing, how bout adding a couple tablespoons of rice vinegar or a little less other vinegar-any kind should do.

Calico Bean Casserole
A tweak that I use in this is to use smoked sausage cut in 1/4 inch rounds instead of the ground beef. I also use 4 cans of beans-usually add black beans to what recipe calls for and drain and rinse all but the baked beans-Bush's of course! Reduce the brown sugar but sometimes add a little molasses, use more onion and a little green or red or both adds to the flavor levels. Great recipe-for us it's a meal and add some corn muffins-perfect!!
