It is 7pm, and snow softly falls from the long-darkened Alaskan sky, dancing through the porch light to land on the deck where I am hard at work evicting it. Down a flight of stairs, Lee ducks and weaves through snow-capped cars, waging epic snow wars against his littlest nephew and the two… MORE

I haven't blogged in a while. Sorry, I guess I'm a half rate bloggeur- possibly even quarter rate if such a thing exists. I have been so busy with medical stuff I haven't been cooking too much lately, it's too bad. In a nutshell, I had a blood test come back with whacked out blood count values… MORE

The first time I made gluten free cookies, I was disappointed. The second time, I cried. I did. Shameful, perhaps, for an adult to sob like an infant, stomp around the kitchen spilling words that would make a sailor blush. But I did, all over a half sheet of very ugly but still mostly edible… MORE
I made these raspberry waffles for breakfast a few days ago. Gluten free bisquick is amazing.

To celebrate my upcoming birthday, my fiance and I joined my mother, sister, and grandparents for a lovely 4-day weekend camping trip, full of swimming, reading, napping in the sun, and of course cooking. I planned out the menu well in advance and did a lot of cooking beforehand to minimise… MORE

Salmon is more than a tradition in Alaska, it's a heritage. A birthright we cherish, and thus I take salmon cooking very seriously. My fiance's grandparents came to visit us last month, and brought with them a huge freezer chest stuffed with fresh caught salmon and halibut, along with a big… MORE

I'm on an adventure. Not just any adventure, mind you, but a food adventure. Surely, everyone here will agree that that sort of adventure is among the best types of adventures one can have? Like all good adventures, it starts with a story. My adventure-spawning story started about a year ago,… MORE

About Me
I'm a nerdy gal from the frozen wastes. I work in a hospital laboratory and am slowly overcoming long term illness through diet change.
My favorite things to cook
Salmon. There is nothing else.
My cooking triumphs
Not two feet in the front door after the week's shopping trip, my fiance looks at me of a sudden and says, "I want garlic bread. Can you make garlic bread?" Can I make garlic bread? Of course I can. In a spark of what I thought at the time was madness, I melted butter and grated garlic onto whole grain rice hamburger buns and threw them under the broiler- not expecting them to turn out but at least appease the other half, and wouldn't you know... they were great!
My cooking tragedies
Made an entire pot of spaghetti sauce using my aunt-in-law's delicious recipe, did not realize until after it was finished that I had accidentally used Jalapeno Olives. I don't know why they even make such an abomination, but it ruined my spaghetti sauce.
