I am a freelance writer. I write for local magazines and occasionally a newspaper article.
I have a blog http://mightywritey.wordpress.com/
(it's not a food blog)
I just started substitute teaching (Nov. 2013).
My favorite things to cook
Since my husband's bout with colon cancer, I am trying to incorporate more vegetable vegetarian recipes (as opposed to just meatless dishes such as pasta & rice). Vegetables have never been my favorite thing to cook, but I would like to get better at it.
I also have an interest in simple Mediterranean dishes and meals for two.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Things have certainly changed around here. The people I've cooked for have moved away. Some, such as my beloved mother-in-law, have passed away. I cook for my husband and me most of the time now. We host a chili supper for my husband's family every year, and I'll cook a dish or two for the occasional family get-together.
My cooking triumphs
My favorite thing these days is packing my husbands lunch. I love to put gourmet lunches together; sometimes it's leftovers from dinner the night before, and sometimes it's a homemade deli sandwich and/or soup.
I baked a beautiful 3-tiered cake for my mother-in-law's 90th birthday, and I baked gourmet cupcakes for my sister-in-law's wedding.
My cooking tragedies
I haven't had too many, and apparently none memorable because I can't remember any right now, although, I'm sure I've had a few.
