Country Apple Dumplings

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2011
I have made a lot of recipes from this site and this is definitely one of the top 5!! This was amazing! I was hesitant of adding the soda (I used Sprite) because it, of course, sounds so odd, but WOW this was wonderful! I made it for 3 people who devoured it (as well as myself) and we are now changing one of our traditional Christmas desserts to this. I also halved the recipe and used part white / part brown sugar and added vanilla. Thanks so much for a great recipe!!

Five Ingredient Ice Cream

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2011
This ice cream was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! I couldn't believe how simple and fast it was to make and yet tasted SO good! I went strictly by the recipe except for using 1 tbsp vanilla bean paste instead of extract and I also added in crumbled Oreo cookies, which was great because they still stayed crunchy, unlike store bought ice cream. I took this ice cream to a party and everyone loved it! I will definitely make it again, in different variations.

Oven Baked Jambalaya

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2011
Wow was this recipe time consuming! It was worth it though...very good! I cut in in half, but the next time I will make the whole thing and freeze some because of how long it takes. I'll also prep some things the day before. The rice didn't cook all the way through after an hour and a half so I just turned it up to 375 and baked it an extra 30 minutes and it was perfect. Thanks for a great recipe!

Chocolate Trifle

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2010
This was great! I made double chocolate brownies from scratch for the recipe, but I think what made it really good was the chocolate pudding mixture, which I followed exactly but mixed in a block of cream cheese...it was amazing! I also drizzled caramel sundae syrup over the brownie peices, as suggested by another reviewer. Oh, and I also used the extra creamy cool whip which made it nice and rich. Thanks for the recipe; I will definitely make it again!

Sugar Cookie Icing

Reviewed: May 19, 2010
I really liked this icing a lot. I usually buy it in the squeeze tube at the store, but it can get expensive. I have not had much luck making my own icing, but this recipe was easy and I was very impressed at how well it turned out; easy to spread, dried hard and shiny, and looked great. The only thing I changed was instead of almond extract, I used french vanilla. I will definitely use this from now on. Thanks for the recipe!

Classic Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: May 5, 2010
These were very good cookies! I used 1 cup of crunchy peanut butter, and about 1/2 cup of the creamy kind. I added a little vanilla (just because I do to almost everything). I rolled into balls and then rolled the top parts around in sugar before making the criss cross patern with fork. Don't flatten them too much or they will be thin and crispy. I also only baked them for about 8 minutes and they were perfectly soft. Great recipe; thank you!

Traditional Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: May 5, 2010
These were very good. They are simple, but go perfectly with something that the "loaded" potatoes would be too much for. They are light and fluffy, and good as is, but you can add more salt, pepper, etc.. for your personal taste. Thanks for the recipe!

Slow Cooker Ham

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2010
I have made this a few times and it turns out really good if you buy a good quality ham. If you cook a cheaper shank or butt portion, I would only cook it for about 4 hours, or it will turn out like "ham jerkey". The better quality ham turns out very good cooked like this and is so easy to do. Sometimes I put pineapple slices on top with tooth picks and brown sugar in the holes. Good recipe, especially for convenience. Thank you!

Fish Tacos

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2010
These were pretty good. I was trying to match the sauce of a local restaurant, and it was close. I also cheated and used Gordon's frozen fish due to time. I'm sure that if I made it exactly like it's supposed to be, it would be really great, but the fish I used was pretty good too. Thanks for the recipe!

Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2010
Very good recipe! I don't make this too often, only because of the fat content, but it is VERY good. I don't use parsley, and sometimes use romano cheese instead of parm; there's not much of a difference. You just have to remember to continuously wisk and add the cheese a little at a time. The only problem I have is that the leftovers always separate when reheating; don't know if that is something that is preventable. Great recipe though; thank you!

Sweet Potato Casserole II

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2010
I love this recipe! I've made it several times and the only changes that I make are that I 1/2 the sugar and double the vanilla. The topping is wonderful and it's tempting to double it but you really don't need to. It does seem to take longer to bake though; I bake mine for about an hour; which seems like the perfect time to me. Great recipe; thank you!

Cut-Out Cookies in a Flower Pot

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2010
I made these for an Easter party for my son's class. I made them in the shapes of Easter eggs and we decorated them and put some on dowels and some on popsicle sticks. The popsicle sticks seemed to work the best. They were easier to get in the middle of the cookies and supported them better as well. The dough was easy to use and the cookies turned out great. They had the perfect amount of sweetness for icing and even though they are durable to have on sticks, they still have a good soft consistency. Great recipe; thank you!

Sour Cream Coffee Cake III

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2010
This is the first time I've ever left a review of any recipe, but out of all of them that I've tried on this website, this is my favorite by far. I've made it several times and, not only do I love it, I get requests all of the time now. I always make it the same way: Double the topping (but put the majority of it in the middle bc it's better there :), add 1 1/2 cups of chopped pecans to the topping and filling mix as well (toast in over 1st if you have time). I use three small loaf pans; you can give one away, freeze one, etc.. I think they taste better this way too. Also, baking time is about 50-60 minutes; I cover with foil halfway through and take foil off the last 5 minutes of baking. This cake is PERFECTION. I have to think that if someone gave it a bad review, they must have messed up somewhere. I've never had anyone try it that didn't like it. Thank you!
