About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
Recipes with lots of flavor and spice! I think I own every spice known to man (slight exaggeration) so it is fun when I get the opportunity to use them.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Making gyoza. My mom taught me, her mom taught her, and so on and so on.
My cooking triumphs
I'm always pretty proud of myself when I cook a great steak. Crisp and caramelized on the outside and a perfect medium rare on the inside.
My cooking tragedies
I made a recipe for dinner that called for chipotles in adobo. It was the first time I used them so I had no concept of what was an appropriate amount in a recipe. So when the recipe called for one canned chipotle, I somehow interpreted that as "one can of chipotles". Needless to say, dinner that night was hard to stomach.

Sausage Casserole
Very yummy! I used Italian sweet sausage, ricotta instead of cottage cheese, mozzarella and parmesan in place of cheddar, and onion powder instead of fresh onion. I combined all of the ingredients with a bag of frozen diced potatoes and a few more spices (garlic powder, black pepper, and cayenne) and baked it up. My kids liked it so much they said they would eat it for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or dessert!

Yummy Sweet Potato Casserole
Yum! Used 3 c. roasted sweet potatoes, 1/3 c. brown sugar instead of white and 1/3 c. milk. For the topping I used, 1/3 c. of flour, pecans, and brown sugar with the 3 Tbsp. of butter. Baked in a 8x8 inch dish for 45 min. Best sweet potato casserole recipe on allrecipes!

Spicy African Yam Soup
My family really enjoyed this soup/stew! I added about a pound of beef stew meat while browning the onions and left out the garbanzo beans. I also left out the thyme and replaced it with 1/2 tsp. marjoram. Thyme can be a little overpowering for my taste buds. I used chunky peanut butter and I loved having the crunch of the peanuts throughout. I used medium salsa and it wasn't too spicy for the kids. I put a dash of cayenne pepper in my bowl to make it spicier.
