Sausage Gravy

I love, love, love this recipe. I was worried the first time I made it because of cooking the roux so long (it seemed like it was sticking to the bottom of the pan more than I would have liked), but the end result was a wonderful flavor I've never gotten from other sausage gravy recipes. It's also very versatile, and while I do often add additional seasoning just to go with what I'm feeling like, it's just as good when I make it just as written.

Delicious! A bit time consuming (for me, at least), but definitely worth it in the end. I liked that the recipe didn't call for cream soup. Will be making this again, and again!

Grilled Flat Iron Steak with Blue Cheese-Chive Butter

I couldn't believe how well this turned out. I made this with venison steaks (trying to use up the meat in the freezer before deer season this year) and marinated it for about three hours to help with the "wild" flavor of the meat, and it was excellent. My hubby devoured it! The only thing I think I will do differently next time is to use ground rosemary. Maybe I'm not very good at crumbling the leaves, but there were too many still intact for my liking. But overall, it was simple, pretty quick, and delicious!

Strawberry Tiramisu for Two

This was my first attempt at tiramisu, and it turned out incredibly well. With the strawberries added, it even tasted better than the regular tiramisu I've had in restaurants. My husband and I ate the whole thing in one sitting, of course! I made ladyfingers from the recipe on this site since I could not find them in the grocery store. It was a little more time consuming, but so worth it. Unlike other reviewers, I didn't have any problem with the amount of strawberries. I bought two pints and ended up only opening the second one for garnish because I used more than the two berries suggested for the garnish. I only made one substitution, since I don't like coffee liqueur or plain espresso and therefore didn't want to buy either just to try out this recipe. I substituted amaretto cappucino, I found it in the store in single serve packets. Now that I know the recipe is a keeper, I will buy those supplies when I make it again. Thanks for an incredible, delicious, and pretty dessert recipe!

Chocolate Bar Fondue

I usually don't review recipes if I don't make them exactly as written, but I feel that this one deserves a shout-out. I didn't add the coffee due to my own dislike of coffee flavor, and used Ghiradelli milk chocolate chips instead of grated chocolate. I also left out the hot water because of other reviews, and it was the perfect thickness for dipping. Simplest fondue I've ever made, and delicious. Served with strawberries, bananas, rice krispy treats, and angelfood cake, and kept warm in a mini slow cooker since I don't own a fondue pot. Also, I mixed the leftovers with walnut pieces and refrigerated in a 8x8 pan for fudge-like bars. Excellent recipe!

Bean 'N' Beef Quesadillas

These quesadillas were delicious, and a hit with my husband who's not a big bean eater. My only issue with them was when I tried to flip them over in the pan, they didn't stay together very well. Next time I make them, I will add just a little more cheese to help with this problem. I scaled the recipe for two people and there was a little more of the filling than I needed, but we used it up later. Overall, a very good recipe.
