Amish Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2013
Followed some of the more common suggestions...ie reducing sugar, adding veggies and stewed tomatoes in liquid to meat and using cream of mushroom soup and adding sour cream to the noodles. Also used different cheeses as well.

Slow Cooker Chicken Taco Soup

Reviewed: May 7, 2012
Sooooo good! For those of us who live in areas of Canada or other countries that don't carried diced tomatoes with green chilies I have a suggestion for substitution. Add a cup of salsa (homemade is best). Works like a charm! :)

I had never heard of chili seasoning until I needed it for a recipe from this website. I found this when I looked up chili seasoning on this website. Very tasty chili seasoning mix! This recipe adds lots of flavor to your chili!

Debdoozie's Blue Ribbon Chili

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2011
Very tasty and delicious. Made even better by the substitution of homemade salsa for jarred stuff and the addition of tomato from our garden. Blue ribbon material for sure!

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2011
using 1/2cup butter and 1/4cup shortening instead of 3/4cup butter makes the best moistest cookies, crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Awesome cookie recipe!

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2011
This is an awesome corn bread recipe. Made even better when baked in a cast iron skillet. The secret is to preheat the skillet in the oven with either lard or vegetable oil and then pour the batter into the hot pan and bake for 25-35 min depending on size of skillet. Turned out phenomenally.

The Shepherd's Pie of my childhood

Reviewed: Mar. 30, 2011
This is the best most authentic recipe for Shepherd's Pie I have been able to find. Most of the others include cream of mushroom soup, which is not what I perceive as traditional shepherd's pie. I did make some modifications to suit my own tastes and to make it a little more like what my step mom used to make. I used 1 1/2 lbs of beef, I used 3-4 heaping tsp of beef bouillon and 1/2cup water instead of beef broth and i used a can of condensed tomato soup instead of the ketchup. I also added about 1 tbsp of Worcestershire sauce to the meat mixture. I also chose to chop up my carrots and mix it in with the meat instead of a layer of pureed carrots. I also added oregano, sage, and thyme to the meat. For my mashed potatoes I added some milk and closer to 1/4 cup of butter and omitted onion just because I forgot. I know it seems like a lot of changes but the concept and recipe is still virtually the same so that's why I gave it 5 stars. My husband would like me to put some paprika on top next time for color and flavor.

Sour Cream Apple Pie Deluxe

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2011
Very tasty pie! I was using deep dish pie plates so I doubled the filling. I loved this creamy tasty apple pie. Next time I might add some spices in with the apples just to suit our tastes. But the recipe was also could as is.

Honey Peach Pie

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2011
Very good recipe! I didn't have fresh peaches so I used canned. I also didn't have any peach schnapps so I used some of the juice from one of the cans of peaches. Because I used canned peaches the mixture was still a little soupy so I added about a tsp of minute tapioca just to help it thicken up a bit. I had company over and they said it was a very tasty peach pie! Will definitely make again.

Cheesy Meatball Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2011
Soup was great and I'm sure the recipe "as is" is good, but I didn't have several things so I substituted and it was really great! I didn't have process cheese sauce so I made a homemade cheese sauce. I also didn't have whole kernel corn so I substituted cream corn (went really well with this soup). I also used leftover potatoes from a pot roast I had cooked a few nights ago. My husband and picky children loved it!

Blender Hollandaise Sauce

Good basic recipe easy to execute, but way too lemony. Didn't taste very much like the Hollandaise sauce I buy in the store. Will try it again though with less lemon juice.

Great flavor! A little runny and quite labor and time intensive for the amount you are left with at the end. But it tastes great with steak!

Apple Crisp Cups

Very good idea the kids loved the single serving apple crisp. I might play with some flavors a bit next time and add a little more apple to each cup next time. But a very good concept and basic recipe!
