Hot Spiced Christmas Wine

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2012
This stuff is dangerously good. I used whole cloves and 1/3 c of honey instead of brown sugar, but otherwise kept it the same. I put it in our 3 qt slow cooker on high at about 11 am and it was ready for our guests' arrival at 1 pm. Make sure not to let it cook too long or at least take the cloves out after a few hours, as the they will infuse too much and numb your tongue. Definitely a keeper!

Brown Sugar Meatloaf

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2011
As meatloaf goes, this is good! Like other reviewers, I put the brown sugar and ketchup on top. To make it gluten free, I substituted 2 cups of finely chopped mushrooms for the cracker crumbs. I used a turkey baster to suck the drippings off about 15 minutes before it was done and then again when it came out of the oven. My partner and meat-loving kid liked it and the picky one ate it without too much hassle, which is high praise indeed!

Barbecued Round Steak

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2010
I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. The steak turned out tender, true, but the recipe overall just wasn't that great. The sauce is really strong. While edible, nobody was really all that enthused about this dish. I didn't enjoy the flavor at all. I'm not making this again.

Hasenpfeffer (Rabbit Stew)

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2010
I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. The rabbit turned out tender, true, but the recipe overall just wasn't that great. The bacon is all stewed and weird in the end and didn't seem to add a lot to the dish. Though it was edible, nobody was nuts about this dish. I'm not making this again.

Oven Fried Chicken III

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2009
Holy cow, this is good! Technically, I made Oven Fried Rabbit. Since rabbit doesn't have skin or any intramuscular fat, you really have to be careful so it doesn't get too dry. This recipe made nice, moist fried rabbit. I substituted saltine crackers for the bread crumbs and omitted the salt. The kids and wife thoroughly approved. This is going to be a staple in my kitchen!
