Every year on Valentine's Day, couples go out dining in quiet candle-lit restaurants to celebrate the holiday of romance.  Now I am not one to take away from the bottom line of any food establishment, but staying in a cooking for your beloved does not have to be a panic-inducing project. And it MORE

Hello again.   I would like to know your most horrific tale of eating out.  I don't care about the name of the joint-that is entirely up to you-but I want this to be a place to vent your frustrations, and we can turn this into a discussion to learn how to fix these problems.   Was the issue: MORE

Courtesy of http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/diabetes-nutrition/ For some people, eating out is an occasional indulgence. For others, it's a way of life. Either way, moderate portions and careful choices can help you make restaurant meals part of your overall plan for diabetes nutrition. Res MORE

I am eating oatmeal and fruit for breakfast, subway and falafal for lunch; and fish and vegetables and lots of fruit for dinner and snacks.  I have lost four pounds since the first. Please share what you are doing to eat right and lose weight this new year. Thanks MORE

We all know what fat is.  Bacon grease, chicken skin, butter, lard and cream, just to name a few. Fat is a nutrient. It is crucial for normal body function and without it we could not live. Not only does fat supply us with energy, it also makes it possible for other nutrients to do their jobs MORE

Long before Emeril, Giada, The Neely’s and Bobby Flay picked their produce and sharpened their knives to perform culinary magic in front of the camera, there were other famous chefs that have not gotten the respect they deserve for bringing  the joy of food to the magic of television. Here is MORE

I love breakfast, and I love coffee and reading the paper. My favorite breakfast is either Eggs Benedict or Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs.  This is when I eat at a restaurant.  When I fix it for my wife and me, it is either Biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs with cheese, and home made… MORE

Hello all. Well I am back from the Black Hills after spending a week eating and snacking my way around Mount Rushmore and the Custer National Forest.  The food was great if you can get away from the "touristy" places that are everywhere. We stayed at Palmer Gulch KOA campground and… MORE

Being a restaurant examiner for Examiner.com is exciting, rewarding and a privilege.  But sometimes it can be a real challenge.  Doing reviews on eating establishments can be tedious and you can fall into a rut.  It seems the last couple reviews I have written have descended into a pattern, and… MORE

Spring has made a premature appearance here in Minnesota, and beside the long-awaited thaw and the resurrection of baseball, golfing and fishing, we dream of the day we can pull our Weber’s out of the garage and anoint them with a slab of animal flesh to grill upon their hallowed coals. … MORE

About Me
I have been a professional restaurant person for 30+ years. I started out as a dishwasher and worked my way up the ladder. No schooling except for hands on experience in locations around the USA. I am now starting my own business as a consultant and food writer.
My favorite things to cook
Everything-except baking and desserts
My favorite family cooking traditions
Gravy, my side of the family is mostly French , so we love the sauces and gravies.
My cooking triumphs
Starting my own public access cooking show-"It's Only Food". Did 33 shows in 3 years as the chef and producer. It certainly opened up a lot of doors and paved the way for changing the way I look at food.
My cooking tragedies
Missing my family growing up and working 80 hour weeks, but I can say that it paid off. No regrets.
