I was shocked to find that I had nothing in my profile though I have been an allrecipes member since 2009. I am a working wife and mother to a toddler. My family is my world! I am a fan of quick meals because commuting to and from work over an hour a day and raising a lil one doesn't allow much time for cooking or prep. If it can't be made during Sesame Street, it doesn't belong in my kitchen! (To all those without kids, that means start to finish I have an hour). I have been dabbling in cooking most of my life, but am far more passionate about good food than I am able to prepare it. I am also not one to follow recipes perfectly or measure, so as you can imagine, on the few times I've stumbled upon something delicious I can't always reproduce it. As you can imagine, I am a horrible baker.
My favorite things to cook
Every Thanksgiving I make 2 pumpkin cheese cakes, the awesome sausage apple cranberry stuffing, and a few other dishes. I got the recipes off of-you guessed it-allrecipes.com. I would also like to share my recipe selection method because it has never steered me wrong. On the top after you type in whatever it is your hoping to find, switch the order from relevance to rating. Scroll past all of the recipes with 2 reviewers and 5 stars to the recipes with 4 1/2 stars and 800 reviewers. Take a few off the top of those lists and decide which or which parts of which you would like to use. I usually compile all the same ingredients and use those with a few of the ones I like from each recipe, or the ones I know I like the taste of in general.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Holidays were always big in my family (I'm 1/4 Italian). We had many different influences in our house growing up because some of my family is Philippino. I also can remember my mom taking out books when I was a kid from our local library called "cooking the _____ way". They were a series so one week we would take out Turkish, the next Irish, then Spanish or what-have-you. I think I like ethnic food so much more than most people I know because of all that early exposure. (Thanks mom!)
My cooking tragedies
The one that always stands out in my head was the sugar free brownies I made as a kid. Not sugar free because the recipe called for it, simply because I forgot to add it. When I realized half way through baking I threw some melt a mints on top and powdered sugar when they cooled. It must have been more than 20 years since then, but I can still remember the taste! Bleh!
