I'm the grandmother of two beautiful, wonderful, smart (okay, you get the point) children, living in a multi-generational military household. Cooking was never my strong suit while I was raising three kids, but I have come to love baking and exploring new recipes (and new cultures) with wonderful family!
My favorite things to cook
My favorite things to cook include any kind of breakfast food, baking breads, and any things that gives my family the opportunity to try new flavors and textures.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Since I am from the South (yes, Oklahomans still consider themselves Southerners) one of my favorite traditions has to be Sunday dinner. My family would gather after church, everyone brought something different and the food was always good but reconnecting always made it better. Each cook had a specialty and all were excited to share recipes and knowledge.
My cooking triumphs
I think any dish that gets a "Delicious Meme" from my two year old grandson is a major triumph!!
My cooking tragedies
When I was first married, I received a Pyrex tube for baking bread. My husband and I had moved into our brand new total electric house and I decided to make a loaf of french bread in my handy-dandy new baking tube in my brand spanking new electric oven. No one in my family had every had an electric oven but how different could it be? The tube worked beautifully, the bread rose appropriately, my new electric oven heated accurately......my new timer worked when set to the CORRECT time. My french loaf was hard enough to be a good defensive weapon. I wasn't actually ever able to remove the loaf from the tube...Bye-bye lovely wedding gift!
