Fried Green Tomatoes II

You failed to say that the tomatoes are best used while still green and sliced about 1/8th of an inch thick. Use VERY little sugar, salt, black pepper and Peanut oil or you will have burned grease and tomatoes. Drain thoroughly!!!

Fried Green Tomatoes I

Years ago, I would have given this a better rating. However, many years of cooking (and eating) in 5 Southern States has taught me that SELF rising Flour is better to use than meal. Also IF you must use meal, make it FRESH, home done FINELY crushed Saltine Cracker Meal. The best oil to fry them in is Peanut Oil as it has a higher burning point.

Best Fried Green Tomatoes

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2002
The directions to cut the tomatoes so thick is definitely wrong in my opinion. I find they will not get done or tender when cut so thick! I've been cooking for 54 plus years, but am still willing to learn. I now cut mine very thin (about 1/8th inch), salt and pepper them and simply flour them in SELF-RISING FLOUR and fry them in very hot Peanut oil -- A few at the time and very quickly. They are great and CRISPY!!! Drain them on several UNCOATED (cheap) paper plates.

Absolutely the Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Looks good but who keeps mexican vanilla on hand? I use PURE VANILLA EXTRACT from McCormick. Also, what would happen if I just used Self Rising Flour. I think both would work. Enjoy! Nita
