Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies I

Reviewed: May 25, 2012
Great! I added a 3rd cup of oatmeal, as well as a generous handful of raisins and of nuts. And instead of chocolate chips I put in three 200g dark chocolate bars, chopped into chunks. Oh, and 2 tsps of vanilla too. Got so many compliments on these!

Buttermilk Oatmeal Muffins

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2012
Excellent breakfast muffin! I doubled the recipe, used kefir instead of buttermilk, used 1/2 cup brown and 1/2 cup white sugar, added 2 teaspoons vanilla, and threw in one chopped-up milk chocolate almond candy bar, as well as about a cup of frozen raspberries. It was AWESOME!!!

Valentino's Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2012
Great pizza crust recipe! Not hard at all. I have baked it BEFORE putting toppings on for a crispier crust, AFTER putting toppings on for a breadier crust, and also tried thin and thick crusts. All work well! Very verstile dough. I always add a teaspoon of pizza spices (oregano, etc) into the dough. I have also made cheese sticks out of this--just the dough, brushed with butter, and mozzarella on top. Yummy!

Eileen's Spicy Gingerbread Men

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2012
Yummy! We've made this a New Year's Day tradition--making a huge gingerbread man and decorating him together--and then of course eating him! This gingerbread is lovely--tender, sweet and very spicy! This is the first recipe I picked from allrecipes.com, and I don't feel the need to ever try any of the other recipes--I got perfection on the first one!

Never Fail Applesauce Spice Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2011
I made this for my daughter's first birthday and it was wonderful! I left out the cloves, allspice and nuts, though I did put in a whole teaspoon of cinnamon. I also used homemade applesauce, which was not pureed but just mashed up with a potato masher. I used a fluffy white (7-minute) frosting recipe, but I think it would have been just about perfect with a cream-cheese frosting!!! The cake was delicious and moist and I will be making this again, and again and again! Thanks for the recipe!!!

Breakfast Casserole

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2011
It was good, and everyone liked it, but I would like to know how to keep it from forming water that sits in the bottom of the pan. (I added green peppers and onions...maybe that was it?)

Quick and Easy Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2011
As stated, I used the dough to make one pizza. It was good, but very bready. If I used this recipe again, I would make it into TWO 12-inch pizzas--thinner crust and less bready. I think it would taste better. Also, I followed the recipe, but put about a teaspoon of italian spices into the dough. Also good for breadsticks! UPDATE--I doubled the recipe and made 3 12-inch pizzas. Worked much better! Still a bit bready, so I may try to double the recipe and make 4 12-inch pizzas.

Fresh Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2011
It was good! People ate it--but no one raved over it. And you can totally taste the honey, so if you don't like a strong taste of honey, you may want to choose a different recipe. We had it with ice cream, and it was good.

Irish Bannock

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2011
I made this one morning for my kids, since we'd just finished a book in our homeschooling which talked about "baking a bannock." Easy to make, tasted great, and the kids loved it! Best hot, right out of the oven. I added cherries instead.

Sour Milk Spice Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2011
Excellent, moist cake! I followed the recipe, except I doubled the cinnamon, and replaced the nuts with raisins. AWESOME cake--you can't go wrong with this! Great quick cake for tea, especially if you've got no eggs in the house. Tip--the top gets crispy, so when you check it with a toothpick, be sure to break through the crispy top enough to see if the toothpick is truly coming out clean. If you just stick it straight in and pull it straight out, the crispy top may wipe the toothpick clean as you pull it out--and you may think it is done when it may not be. Also, the cake gets nice and brown and pulls away from the sides of the pan when it is done. When I told my kids to rate this from 1 to 5 stars, one gave it an 8 and the other said 20! :) Oh, and it is also good the next day.

Nana's Apple Crisp

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2011
We had this for breakfast, so we didn't have it with ice cream. It was very sweet. I didn't use tart apples because I didn't have any. The topping didn't cook together like I thought it would, so it was more of an "Apple Crumble" instead of an "Apple Crisp." I like my "Apple Crisp" to be crispy on the top and gooey on the bottom. :)

Overnight Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2011
I rate this coffee cake 5 stars for convenience (make at night, bake in morning--GREAT!), and 5 stars for taste (melt in your mouth and gets lots of compliments!). I gave a final rating of 4 stars, though, because it isn't very easy to serve. I doubled the recipe and made it for our church fellowship, and much of it fell apart as we cut it, and as people ate it, more of it crumbled. BUT I got rave reviews! :) I will make it again.

Banana Sour Cream Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2010
I made this recipe for my family and my parents, and got RAVE reviews! My dad said, "That's the best banana bread I have ever tasted!" My dad is 68, and has tasted his share of various banana breads over the years. :) Awesome recipe! I followed it--no variations (except perhaps 1/8 cup less sugar because the bananas I had were so brown that they were very sweet already, and I mashed the bananas too.

Cinnamon Griddle Cakes

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2010
I didn't change the recipe at all, and the dough was very thick and brown. It was hard to tell when the pancakes were burning, so many of my pancakes got too brown. (I wanted to make sure the middles were cooked all the way through, because the batter was so thick and they puffed up so much.) BUT, they were very good WITH THE GLAZE. When we added other toppings, like jam or syrup, they were just very cinnamony pancakes with jam or syrup. But my husband's comment about the pancakes with the glaze was, "They DO taste a lot like cinnamon rolls!" But his other comment was, "But then you might as well just make cinnamon rolls." The family liked them, though, and I may still make them once in a while just for fun.

Good Old Fashioned Pancakes

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2010
A good, basic pancake that doesn't require things like beating egg whites, or having buttermilk on hand. The pancake itself has very little flavor (besides the butter--yum!), so if you like more flavorful pancakes then add vanilla, cinnamon, applesauce, or lemon. I prefer buttermilk pancakes myself, but whenever I DON'T have buttermilk on hand, this will be my basic pancake recipe. The kids liked it, my husband liked it, and they all ate at least three each!

Apple Strudel Muffins

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2010
I tweaked the recipe due to the many reviews: 1/2 cup white sugar, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1 cup chopped apple, 1 cup shredded apple, mix apple and sugar together to let juices come out, 1 tsp cinnamon and dash of nutmeg added to batter. Still, though very good, not totally outstanding, and no one had more than one, which was disappointing... Would have been better if I'd have sprinkled some of the topping in the MIDDLE of the muffin as well as on the top. Next time I'll try that. I will also leave the apples in larger chunks instead of shredding so many.

Easy Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2010
These were pretty good! I thought they were tasty. The only reason I gave them a four is because they didn't disappear like I thought they would. It's two days after I made them, and although they're still soft and chewy and delicious, my husband has only eaten two of them, and my kids have had two each. I still have a whole bag of them left. They do make BEAUTIFUL cookies, though, and I like the fact that you don't have to roll them out. We rolled the balls in colored sugar before baking them--I posted a picture if you'd like to see! Do make these at least once--maybe my family is just more of a "chocolate chip cookie family," if you know what I mean. :)

Naan

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2010
Delicious! Mine turned out very thin, as opposed to some of the pictures of this recipe--but they bubbled up just fine, and tasted great, so I guess I did it right! Made LOTS--like 24 naans! Oh, and DO use as little flour as you can, as one reviewer suggested. After all the mixing, kneading, and rolling out, I still had about 1/2 cup flour left from the original 4 and 1/2 cups the recipe called for.

Ninety Minute Cinnamon Rolls

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2010
Tips for making it even better!--Roll the dough very thin, spread the filling out thinly, put it into a pan, and TURN THE PAN UPSIDE DOWN immediately after taking it out of the oven--that way the syrup will not all sink to the bottom. I put mine in a 9x13 pan, which worked great! I also made the cream cheese frosting from the "Clone of Cinnabon" recipe on this site. All in all, five stars! Excellent the first day, hot out of the oven, and excellent the second day, warmed up in the microwave! Yum--I'll be making these again!

Creamy Rice Pudding

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2010
Excellent! We didn't add raisins and had it with blackberries on top, and my kids gobbled it down. Next time I will add a little more milk (up to a cup more), because when this cools down, it is VERY thick.
