Root Beer Cookies

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2010
Unique cookies packed with flavor! A slightly easier recipe (without buttermilk) for this would be to use a box of white or yellow cake mix, 2 eggs, and 1/2 cup of oil and add a couple tsp. of root beer extract and use powdered sugar, milk, and extract for glaze with vanilla optional. Thanks for the great idea!

Rhubarb Bars

I thought this recipe was great...not to tart not too sickeningly sweet. I like it better than pie!

Banana Cream Cheesecake

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2011
Delicious! Softer/mushier than baked cheesecakes usually are, which is how I like it. I used graham crackers instead of vanilla wafers because that's what I had available. Like another reviewer suggested, I used the banana butter icing recipe on this site as topping to avoid the unflavored gelatin and heavy cream. I will be making this again!

Stef's Whoopie Pies with Peanut Butter Frosting

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2010
Excellent. I did not change anything about the recipe. These taste a lot like those new Oreo cakesters, just less greasy.

Chocolate Chip Almond Cookies

Pretty tasty! I also added chopped pecans. These are a more dense, chewy cookie. Just how I like 'em!

Fruited Cranberry Relish

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2011
I did not make this exactly like the recipe states. Maybe my cranberries were bad, but they just did not provide a lot of cranberry flavor, just tartness. This is definitely a much healthier/appealing alternative to the can molded cranberry jelly! I used one clementine in addition to the navel orange and substituted the sugar for about 1/4 cup of honey and added just a pinch of cinnamon and 1 shake of ground nutmeg. A little spicy and not too tart.

Creamy Banana Bread

Great taste, but I think I would double the filling. Mine didn't make much of a ribbon.

Peppermint Meringues

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2011
The recipe/directions alone I would probably give 3 stars. With just adding about 1/4 tsp. of peppermint extract I would give them 4 stars. Also, the meringues can be much prettier by just piping them through a baggie. Nothing to difficult. I used Andes peppermint baking chips that I had on hand instead of candy canes, and I added just a couple drops of green food coloring. That turned out fine.

Zucchini Brownies

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2011
I followed the recipe exactly but used a canned cream cheese frosting. My brownies did turn out cakey (without adding an egg) but they were very moist and tasty. I thought they were a little bland plain, though. Not sweet or chocolatey enough maybe. So i pokes holes in the top and drizzled just a little caramel sauce over them and let soak in before frosting with icing. Delicious! I would definitely recommend adding some chocolate chips to the batter.

Potato Chip Cookies VI

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2011
I don't think these cookies would have been as good if I did not make some changes. I used half unsalted butter and half shortening. I did not use nuts. I also added chocolate chips to some and butterscotch chips to the rest. The chocolate chip ones were best. I would give 4 stars with the chocolate chips. This definitely makes a chewy cookie!

Zucchini and Pecan Saute

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2011
Not too bad. Definitely a different combination. I thought it was a little better with some black pepper, and maybe a tiny pinch of garlic. Try this recipe if you're looking for something unique.

Apricot Twists

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2011
These were pretty good. I substituted apricot preserves with peach and used cinnamon instead of mace and sprinkled a little bit of cinnamon and sugar on top after brushing on the milk. The secret is to keep the dough as cool as you can to make a stiff spiral.

Apple Cider Biscuits

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2011
My biscuits did not have very much flavor (until adding a lot more), and I couldn't taste much cider. I used more cinnamon and about 4 tbsp of honey and 1 tsp vanilla. These were delicious dipped in cider, though.

Chocolate Mint Sandwich Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2010
Pretty tasty. For me this made a medium crunchy cookie. If you wanted a cakier texture, you could use the cookie dough from a recipe titled "Stef's whoopie pies" hers call for peanut butter filling, which is also excellent. I was just in the mood for mint and chocolate this time.

Cinnabun Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2010
Just like a cinnamon roll's taste with a cookie texture! Excellent Idea. I did make the icing like someone suggested (you can't have a cinnamon roll without icing) and I used regular shortening. No dollop on cookie sheet. After the dough being thoroughly refrigerated, I still needed more than a light flouring to prevent sticking, but maybe that's just me. I froze the rolls before baking to make cutting easier and to prevent spreading. I didn't "flip" the cookie sheet, just lifted each one with a spatula after cooking. One tip I could offer would be to only put filling on the first 2/3 of the rectangle since it gets squeezed out when rolling or let the warm mixture dry for a while first. Thanks! Definitely making again!

Peach Cobbler I

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2010
Tastes wonderful! I think I would like it better with almost twice the crust. Mine turned out a little soupy, so maybe I will make it without as much butter next time. I had a craving and this hit the spot!

Seattle Macadamia Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2010
These cookies are ok. It's hard to really taste the chocolate, and I even added some chocolate chips. I also added a little extra flour to prevent really flat cookies. I was surprised to find a cookie recipe like this with wheat flour. Maybe they would be better with walnuts or almonds, and maybe some butterscotch chips. I think that macadamias taste a bit like crayons.

Danish Kringle

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2010
Turned out great! Followed all the directions and a couple reviews with no problem. Cooled dough for full 8 hours. I halved the recipe and was still able to make 2 danish, probably enough to feed 4. Made a blueberry filling by boiling blueberries, water and sugar and one with cream cheese, brown sugar and cinnamon. Definitely a keeper! Thanks.

Sunday Morning Lemon Poppy Seed Pancakes

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2011
These are pretty good. Definitely something different. My batter turned out a little runny and made flat pancakes at first, so I added a little flour and they were just fine. A healthy alternative to lemon poppy seed bread. Tastes great served with blueberry syrup.

To Die For Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2011
Great muffins! For the base muffin I didn't make any changes except frozen blueberries and I too used brown sugar for the topping. After baking, I decided I wanted a strudel topping, but they were still delicious without it.
