Slow Cooker Pumpkin Steel Cut Oats

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2013
I feel bad writing this review, because quite honestly I really did not care for this breakfast. I made it as per the instructions, but subtracted the sugar (because I didn't have sugar replacement, and I figured I'd just add my own afterwards). I woke up really excited for this breakfast, planning on eating it for the next few mornings. But, I found it to be waaaay too slimy, for a lack of a better description. I don't know if that is because of too much pumpkin, or water, or even cooking time. Unfortunately next time I think I'll just make my oats on the stove top, and add my flavorings after it's done.

Best Cream Of Broccoli Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2012
Quite nice! I mashed my broccoli rather than blending it, and added a cup of shredded sharp cheddar at the end of cooking it. Really enjoyed it, nice and hearty. Made me feel good about eating my vegetables! We'll see how the leftovers taste once they cool down, if they last that long!

French Bread Rolls to Die For

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2012
Made these into submarine style rolls to put sausages in. SO GOOD! I brushed them with olive oil before going in.. wouldn't recommend that if you are looking for pretty buns, but they sure tasted good (nice, soft, chewy crust) so I didn't mind that they weren't the prettiest.

Fresh Southern Peach Cobbler

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2012
Absolutely delicious! Had some peaches that had that gross, meal-y texture that just could not be eaten raw. So, my mother suggested peach cobbler and I tried out this recipe. I ended up making a few changes as per previous reviews: I made 1.5 the topping (but didn't do 1.5 the sugar), and used 2 tablespoons of cornstarch. Also, I did not use boiling water.. it would have completely negated the rubbing in or cutting in of the butter! Turned out amazing! I will definitely be making this again. Would love to try it with a variety of fruits.. we do have some slightly old plums too...

Candied Apples II

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2012
Just attempted this recipe in preparation for a bake sale that I am doing later in the week. I only did half, and I was able to coat 3 medium apples, a bunch of grapes I had in my fridge, and still had some left over to pour on a baking sheet. I estimate that half would have covered around 5 apples or so. One slight change I made was to add a dash of cinnamon oil. Super tasty, can't wait to try out my cherry flavouring! SO simple to make.. put ingredients into pan, stir to combine, then sit and wait for the temperature to rise! No need to stir or do anything until you hit 300 and add in your food colouring/flavouring! Clean up tip: fill your candy saucepan with water, and place on stovetop to boil. Voila! 10 minutes and your hard candy coating is gone! **Edit: Just tried it out with cherry flavouring on Granny Smith Apples: AMAZING. The full recipe made about 12 apples for me :)
