Jambalaya

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2012
This was a fabulous meal! My father raved it was the best meal he's had in a long time even tho my mother is a terrific cook. Several in my family cannot eat garlic or too much hot spice so I made the following alterations: No Cajun or file spice - instead I used Smoked Paprika & Basil. Smoked kielbasa instead of Andouille. I also added a can of cream of chicken soup which gave it all a very yummy creamy smoked flavor. I served the rice on the side. It was even better the second day.

Kentucky Biscuits

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2012
Excellent biscuits!! This is my substitution for buttermilk: 2 heaping tablespoons of greek yogurt plus a splash of vinegar in a cup with enough milk to make the 3/4 cup needed. Works great

Candied Fruit Mandel Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2012
As a new Shiksa wife I am new to Jewish baked goods. That in mind, my husband requested Mandel bread, his favorite childhood cookie. I found this recipe and gave it a shot. His preference is NO chocolate but rather the lemon juice, lemon zest, walnuts and candied fruit. I lined the cookie sheet with parchment paper and then just lifted the parchment paper with the rolls still on it to the rack to cool. very easy. I also read on another website that the rolls will spread and not to worry. The finished cookie should only be 1 1/2 inches tall. No extra flour was needed. PS. - oil your hands when you handle the dough.

Basil Shrimp

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2012
Excellent, fast and easy. I did not grill it but rather sauteed everything (including marinade) in a large skillet and served it over spaghetti noodles. My slight modification was to add coconut oil in place of the olive oil and I used basil paste instead of fresh basil. I also thickened the marinade with cornstarch and tossed in some brocolli. My husband cannot eat garlic so I left it out and it still had great flavor.

Chicken Thighs Surprise

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2012
Excellent, easy recipe.!! My husband has very discriminating taste and said this was good enough to serve to company! My change was to add a package of onion soup mix and water since I did not have chicken broth.!! I browned the chicken and veggies before baking everything.

Moist Yellow Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2011
This was excellent and easy!! I used regular flour, sifted. I used regular milk 2 cups, not 2 1/2 and the butter, eggs and milk at room temperature. No soda but rather 4 1/2 tsp baking powder. It did not have a mealy texture at all, but rather a wedding cake texture. Maybe it came out so good because I creamed the butter and sugar really well. It's even good without frosting.

Haroset for Passover

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2011
I am a Gentile married to a Jewish husband so this is my first Haroset. My mother in law says they always add a little horseradish for a kick. I dispursed it in the wine before mixing it with the apples. Delicious!

Chicken Breasts with Lime Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2011
Excellent flavor. I have a few changes...cut butter to 2 TBLS and added a heaping TBLS of instant bullion plus 1/2 cup of water (maybe more) and lime juice. then I thickened with a little cornstarch for a perfect sauce. Definiately an easy and impressive dish for a "company coming" dinner

Bow Tie Pasta with Sausage and Spinach

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2011
My husband claimed this to be one of the best recipes ever. I used mild turkey sausage and added 1/2lb of sauteed shrimp and any veggies I had on hand which at the time were zucchinni & mushrooms. Very easy and delicious basic recipe. We also thought it would be excellent over angel hair pasta. .
