My favorite family cooking traditions
Sunday Dinner Open house! When growing up, my parents had an Open House Dinner every Sunday. My parents have both passed yet the tradition is still alive.
My cooking triumphs
Southern Pork Barbeque! Northerners call it Pulled Pork. Have my own secret recipes for the dry rub and also for the sauce. Pinto bean pie - One First Place Ribbon in a pie competition!
My cooking tragedies
When I was 10 years old I was watching Julia Child on TV and she was making Scones or biscuits (if memory serves me correctly) for dessert. I wanted to surprise my mom so I ran into the kitchen and started grabbing ingredients and was running back and forth between the kitchen and living room. Well, I must have missed some of the ingredients (probably baking soda, baking powder, salt for starters) They came out of the oven as heavy as rocks. I threw away the evidence!! Later that night, I told my mom what I did and she laughed!! She said that explained why the trash was so heavy!! lol

Bacon Wrapped Smokies
I have been making these for years for both large and small parties. They are very easy to make. Sometimes I add the toothpicks before cooking, other times afterwards. Some of my parties are quite large so my recipe starts with 8lbs of bacon, and 8lbs of beef cocktail weiners. Thats a lot of toothpicks!!! LOL
