About this Cook
I speak cat. I love to cook, especially baking. I have a PhD and do research in cognitive neuroscience.
My favorite things to cook
Cheesecake, quick breads and similar such baked goods.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Meatless Polish meal consisting of perogies, kapusta, and prunes on Christmas eve. Every Saturday morning we have a fruit platter, muffins, and donuts. Every Sunday we have either pancakes, French toast, or waffles. Christmas morning and Easter morning, we have baked goods from the Polish bakery: babka loaf, poppyseed loaf (sweet poppyseed filling rolled insight a light sweet bread), and an apple coffeecake.
My cooking triumphs
My cooking tragedies
The recipes I rated poorly on this site... In particular a disgusting turkey meatloaf ::shudders::.

Hodie's Sloppy Joes
Good as is, almost exactly what I was looking for - a simple, basic sloppy joes recipe. But when I tasted it while cooking, I decided to add 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce. Then it was perfect. I made a half batch, so for those making a full batch, you may want to add 2 tsp of Worcestershire sauce instead.

Pie Crust I
I used butter rather than shortening. Otherwise, it was exactly what I wanted - a basic crust.

Slow Cooker Carolina BBQ
I have a different recipe for North Carolina BBQ that I like much better. In the end, I added regular old bbq sauce (i.e. turning it into something completely different) to this to make it enjoyable.
