Best Restaurant Quality Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Have you ever stumbled across a couple of recipes that blend well together to make a great recipe. How about a restaurant quality sandwich? One of my favorite grilled sandwiches was from The Cheese Factory Restaurant. Unfortunately, I think the grilled cheese sandwich is nixed from the menu.


 Here is my story on how I found a great grilled cheese sandwich.  Warning, this sandwich is loaded with calories. However, I don't think it hurts to have a grilled cheese once in a while. The other day, I was making bread cubes for dressing. I roamed around on AR looking for an easy bread recipe. I found this recipe which makes 2 loaves of bread. I used one loaf for the Thanksgiving dressing. I used the other loaf to make the awesome cheese sandwich.

Don't be afraid to make bread. This bread is so easy. Just make sure you buy yourself a thermometer to make sure the water for the yeast is at the right temperature. You can buy a cheap thermometer at Walmart.

Awesome Grilled Cheese Sandwich

What is different about this grilled cheese sandwich? The sandwich is baked in the oven instead of cooking it on the stove. What an easy way to make a large number of sandwiches. You can place 9 sandwiches according to the recipe. I only made 3 sandwiches for my husband, son, and I.


To make the sandwich, slice the bread. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Butter one side of bread and place side down on a baking sheet.

Arrange cheese slice on each slice of bread. Spread butter on remaining bread and place buttered-side up on top of the cheese. Bake in preheated oven for 5-8 minutes. My oven bakes hot, so I only baked the grilled cheese sandwich for 5 minutes.

This grilled cheese sandwich is pretty close to the one from The Cheese Factory. You could also just buy bread, slice, and then bake.

Imagine the possibilities for this sandwich. BLT's, Ham and Cheese.  Grilled Cheese on Sour Dough! Run with it, and make sandwiches my friends.

This Baked Grilled Cheese Sandwich definitely will be made again in my house. I will borrow a phrase from Tom Hanks in the movie, Larry Crowne -(Where he talks about making restaurant quality french toast.) I never knew I could make a "restaurant quality" grilled cheese sandwich.

I am askeered of yeast - but may take your advice on this one, and make it my first yeast project (= My mom's neighbor used to gift us with loaves of homemade bread. One of our favorite things was to use the "Florence bread" to make grilled cheese. What a treat that was! The grilled cheese recipe we found here and loved is the Greek Grilled Cheese. Many years ago I bought my ex a two burner griddle - it was GREAT for making grilled cheese for my family (= I kind of wish I'd gotten the double sided griddle with the grill on the other side /=

Hi Lela :) I love grilled cheese! yum! some savory tomato jam would be great on grilled cheese-- so I think you need to put jam on your to-do list :) Your granddaughter is a cutie!

Hi, Deb. I have a griddle and it only makes four sandwiches at a time. So, I got excited when I saw this recipe where you can bake several sandwiches at once in the oven.

Hello, Manella. Thank you, I just love my little granddaughter. Perhaps you could still make this in the oven by brushing olive oil each side of the bread. Then, add other kinds of meats instead of the cheese If you love bread you will love this toasted sandwich is so good.

Hi Gammaray! How is the new grand baby and how are you? I hope you are taking plenty of photos. The Greek Grilled Cheese Sandwich sounds so good. Now, you are making me hungry. I took the plunge on baking rolls and breads. The best thing I ever bought was a thermometer. Also, I discovered All Recipes and then there were all the people on here who held my hand. Hi Allie! I bet your son would love a baked grilled cheese sandwich with your tomato jam. I would love one, too! I am scared like Gamma Ray about making any kind of canned goods. Living at high altitude, there is a difference. I would hate to can something and then make someone get sick. Although, I am envious of people like you who are so talented.

32degree-This will certainly be a favorite if you bake it in the oven. It was the best grilled cheese sandwich, I ever made. You don't have to make the bread you can buy some French bread at the store, or use Texas Toast.

I enjoy cooking for our family sit down dinners. Although my kids are grown, we are a close family that enjoys 4-5 sit down dinners a week together. My family's favorite dinner is chicken enchiladas smothered in green chili. I have a passion for cooking, baking for the holidays and food photography.
My favorite things to cook
I am family oriented and spend time with my family enjoying meals. My favorite things to cook are Mexican food and any food my family asks me to cook. My family looks forward to home cooked Mexican food at least once a week and Italian food.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I am on a journey to reclaim family recipes that were lost when the cooks in my family passed away. Cooking traditions are a major part of my passion for cooking. On Christmas Eve, we always had green chili and tamales. Cookie baking, lemon bars, pizzelles , and potica have been a must at Christmas as long as I can remember. My family looks forward to homemade pizza, when we gather as a family to decorate the Christmas cookies. Thanksgiving wouldn't be Thanksgiving without noodles and gravy piled high on mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie, and broccoli and rice casserole. On the 4th of July, there is the 4th of July Potato Salad that I make using 10 pounds of potatoes. Mexican Food is part of our weekly menu--green chili served over mashed potatoes or as a slopper (green chili poured over hamburgers.) I am always making tortillas for someone. They call my tortillas little white pieces of gold. Saturdays are Family night for dinner. It is the one day my kids can request a meal.
My cooking triumphs
Seeking help on the Buzz and the AR Blog has resulted in a few triumphs. I am extremely ecstatic about overcoming the yeast monster. I can now bake baguettes, focaccia and the best rolls in the world, my Grandma Rita's Butter Rolls.
My cooking tragedies
My first attempts at baking bread/rolls resulted in rock hard flat rolls. However, I am improving. Baking at High Altitude is somewhat of a challenge.
