Emma's Belgian Waffles

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2012
As I am relatively new to making Belgian waffles, I decided to try the two top recipes on allrecipes to do a side by side comparison for fun. After my family and our brunch guests tried the two side by side, this recipe was the clear winner. The outside was crispy while the inside was tender, and it had the perfect amount of sweetness. The only thing I changed in the recipe was the amount of vanilla, which I always increase and I subbed AP flour with three teaspoons of baking powder for the self-rising flour since I didn't have any on hand. If you enjoy a yeast flavor, this recipe does not have one...but my taste testers decided that the yeast flavor in the other Belgian waffle recipe didn't make the other waffles necessarily better (and the other waffles were so much more work to prepare).

Shredded Brussels Sprouts

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2010
This recipe was amazing! My husband doesn't like brussel sprouts at all, and he LOVED this recipe. They were absolutely delicious, and this recipe is going to become a regular for us.

King Crab Appetizers

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2012
I made this for a NYE party and we loved it! As per other reviewers instructions, I used the mini phyllo cups instead of biscuits and doubled the crab meat. They were delicious and I can definitely see us making them again in the future.

Oven Scrambled Eggs

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2012
Wow! I halved the recipe, subbed fat-free half and half for milk and cooked this in an 8x8 glass dish. My brunch guests and I were all blown away. Not only were they light and airy, they were also cooked through perfectly and not at all runny. This recipe is going into my permanent collection for when we have breakfast guests. What is even more amazing is that when I popped the leftovers into the microwave for a minute the next morning, they were delicious all over again. Thanks so much for sharing this recipe!!!

Jam Kolaches

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2012
I made these and they were very well-received. Per other reviewers suggestions I chilled the dough before rolling and used solo raspberry filling instead of jam. After they were done, I sprinkled them with confectioners sugar to add a hint of sweetness and to dress them up a bit. The next time I make these I plan to add a hint of almond extract to the dough and to cut them into squares instead of circles as they squares would be a LOT easier to work with. My cookies looked far less than perfect, but I think that with more practice they could look very pretty.

Belgian Waffles

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2012
As I am new to making Belgian waffles, I decided to make this recipe as well as Emma's Belgian Waffle recipe from this site to do a side by side comparison for my family and our brunch guests. Every single person decided that Emma's Belgian Waffle recipe was superior to this recipe...but it was noted that if the recipes hadn't been made side by side they would have liked this recipe and that they weren't necessarily bad. The yeast flavor is distinct in this recipe and as there is none in Emma's Belgian Waffle recipe, you might want to choose this recipe instead. Every person noted that the texture (soft inside and crisp outside) and flavor were inferior to Emma's Belgian Waffles as this recipe provided a slightly more rubbery texture and a more bland flavor. If you desire a more savory waffle with an overall softer texture, this recipe may be the one for you.

Garlic Crab Artichoke Dip

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2010
I am really sorry to say that this recipe was not worth spending the money for ingredients on. It was just too dry, and no one really liked it when I served it at a party...especially me! There are so many wonderful crab dip recipes out there that I wouldn't spend my money on this one.
