About this Cook
I am a middle-aged woman trying to broaden my cooking knowledge. I am learning to try new things and not be so afraid to cook with new ingredients.
My favorite things to cook
Anything my family enjoys, especially soups and stews. I enjoy cooking mexican or italian dishes the most. I also have recently enjoyed trying to bake different breads.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Now that my kids are older I don't care so much what I cook, but I enjoy the fact that my kids like cooking with me. My husband and I just renovated our kitchen and I love the fact that we can all cook together now that I have a huge island. That makes me happiest, when we're all together taking part in a meal and spending quality time together. We do have our traditions: the same Easter morning egg casserole, and the same twice baked potatoes to go along with our traditional fish dinner on X-mas eve. My kids still really look forward to our holiday cooking traditions even though they're in their twenties.
My cooking triumphs
I have had many triumphs in the kitchens. I am always thrilled when my family or friends like something I have cooked or baked. But I especially like the fact that over the years I have learned to "tweek" recipes to my liking. When I was younger I was too afraid to do that. I always feel the most triumphant in the kitchen when I "invent" a recipe in my head and it comes out great. Then I have a hard time getting it down a paper to make it again!
My cooking tragedies
Way too many to list!

Unbelievable Chicken
This chicken recipe is the best I've tried in a long time. So easy and tasty. I didn't have lime so I used all lemon. I didn't have coarse-ground mustard so I used spicy brown. I cut the chicken breasts into strips so we would get more grill marks all around. It was excellent and the family raved about it. Will definitely be serving this at my next picnic.

Pepperoni Bread
This is a great recipe. I had no idea making pepperoni bread was this easy. I got 2 pizza dough balls from my local pizzeria. Each ball will make 2 nice size loaves. Before the first 2 could even completely cool my family had devoured them. I was glad I got an extra. Great dipped in marinara sauce. Thanks, I will be making this regularly.

Super-Delicious Zuppa Toscana
This was a delicious soup. Great on a cold winter day. I eliminated the bacon as it's not one of my favorites. I made a rux beore adding the spinach to thicken the broth. The soup was great but the next day when the potatoes had thickened the broth, it was awesome. I will try and add some small white navy beans next time and maybe not need the rux. The whole family loved it. Thanks, this ones a keeper.
