About this Cook
O collect old cookbooks from churches around the world. That is where all of the family recipes hide. I personally feel that I am a better baker than I am chef, but I think it is because I prefer sweet to salty.
My favorite things to cook
I love baking cakes, cookies, pies, basically any dessert. I love the beauty and the wow factor a well pulled off dessert. The fastest way to make new friends is to be the lady who brought the cake to the party!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Both of my parents came from very large families, so the traditions I had passed down to me were probably how to stretch a dollar in the kitchen and how to create fabulous semi-homemade dishes. I feel like my tastes have definitely matured since moving to a city and getting older, but there are still a few casserole staples that I can't live without!
My cooking triumphs
Any one of my cakes. After taking a cake decorating class and then getting a KitchenAid from my mom for Christmas, my whole baking world changed! I really do make cakes with "wow factor: now! Perfecting butter-cream was my biggest triumph! I probably gained 20 lbs getting there though!
My cooking tragedies
I once tried to follow a family recipe from a cookbook. It was miss-typed and had TBLSs instead of tsps listed for garlic salt, so I massively over-salted it. Smelled great, but it tastes so very bad!

Chef John's Chocolate Lava Cake
I followed the recipe/video exactly and it turned out perfectly. My stove tends to bake hot, so I cooked 16 minutes on the nose. I used heart shaped ramekins and served with raspberry sauce and whipped cream. People were licking their plates clean.

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork
We made this for a baby shower BBQ we had last week. I used a shoulder roast that was on sale, got a 2 ltr of root beer, soaked the meat in root beer all day and then the night before the BBQ we started the slow cooker. (Make sure the meat is covered completely) In the morning, we drained it and added BBQ sauce. It was perfect. All day we were complimented on how good it was. No one knew how simple it was to make! We served it with grill onions, next time we will add coleslaw.

Chef John's Chicken and Dumplings
Just finished making this. Followed the recipe and video exactly. It is SO good and SO easy! I've never had success with making dumplings until tonight, and it is getting thumbs up from the whole family. Watch the video, it makes it impossible to mess up!
