Cream Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2013
Excellent basic cake recipe. I'll never use a box mix again. Made mini cupcakes with it and the family nearly devoured all the cupcakes in one day. It was a big hit.

Apple Oatmeal Bar Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2012
I liked this recipe. It was a nice flavor and it's very adaptable. I didn't have quite enough apple sauce. I only had about a half eaten lunch portion container of apple sauce so I used that and diced up an apple. I was out of vanilla so I used almond extract in place of the vanilla. It did look a little dry so I tossed in a beaten egg and a tsp of lemon. The kids loved the result. I cut it up into bars and wrapped them individually for lunches and snacks for the upcoming days. Although crumbly it has just the right amount of sweetness but still a healthy feel to it. Next time I'm going to try adding cranberrys and orange juice as well to it. The possibilities are endless.

Simple Scones

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2012
This was the very first time I've attempted to make scones but the results were amazing. Where has this recipe been all my life? I didn't have sour cream on hand but I did have a thick greek style yogurt which is similar in texture. My children liked them so much much that they had seconds and asked if I had bought them at the bakery. This recipe is a keeper. Next time I want to try using chopped dried apples. My son said with wide eyes, "That should taste like apple pie." Apple pie for breakfast sounds like heaven indeed. Try this recipe, you won't regret it.

Auntie Willie's Dutch Apple Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2011
Here's a huge hint with this recipe. The Dutch don't really use a pie plate for this style of pie. They use a springform pan. You just simply pat the dough into the greased and floured pan and then add your apples. It's quick and delicious. You might have to place a piece of aluminum foil on the top to keep it from burning.

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2010
I've been using this exact recipe for over a year now. (originally found it elsewhere) We've used it for nearly every holiday & we've invested in all sorts of shapes of cookie cutters. The recipe is so easy to use that even the kids can manage it. This past year we had a cookie birthday party using this recipe. The kids rolled out their own dough and used the cutters to make their own creations. The only difference is that the recipe I use calls for one tablespoon of vanilla. We highly recommend these sugar cookies.

Molasses Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2010
Made these on Christmas Eve. What a fantastic recipe. It's easy to put together and is absolutely delicious. As other reviewers have mentioned they do bake very fast. Mine were burning before it was even close to being time to be done. My oven runs hot though. The next batch that went in the oven I watched like a hawk and they came out very lovely. What a nice blend of spices. I'm glad I tried it. It's going in my tried and true favorite family recipe book.

Runzas (meat pies)

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2010
If I could give this more stars I would. I've been looking for a pocketsandwich recipe for a long time that was easy to work with, flavorfull & didn't get hard while cooking. This recipe fits the bill. The breading has a slight sweet taste which we love but you could adjust if that is not your thing. Also we made a vegetarian version of this with a lentil bean & potato stew & that came out super. It was tasty, healthy & inexpensive to make. What's not to love!

Asian Salmon

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2010
I made this a couple of days ago & my toddlers ate up every last bite on their plate & asked for more. I didn't have 2 lbs of salmon but I made the recipe exactly as written & it came out wonderful. Used just a small spoonful of the marinade left in the pan for the rice on the kids plates & they thought that was fantastic. Went well with broccoli on the side as well. I'll give the recipe a 5 for the ease of putting together, flavorfullness & most important for us, kid friendly.

Potato Rolls

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2010
I made these today & my little ones went crazy for them. They love the smell of home baked goodies and they were at the oven glass chattering about the "cookies" that were coming their way. (They call almost all home baked things cookies.) I make them sandwiches from the breads with butter & ham & they loved it. I made the batter & let it sit in the fridge overnight. After forming the rolls I did not cover & let the bread rise again because the little ones were hungry but they still came out very good. Next time I'll follow to the T & maybe get a fluffier roll.

Honey Lemon Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2010
This came out so tasty. I skipped the icing because my husband prefers not to have things to sweet. It really has a lovely taste even without the icing. I made them on a Sunday afternoon & by Monday evening there was not one left to be found. Big thumbs up from our crew.
