I've lived all over the country but have spent most of the past 30 years in North Louisiana. I retired last year and moved to Calif where I finally have time to get back into the kitchen. I love to cook and always have and was an avid collector of cookbooks. I enjoyed reading a new cookbook like some enjoy reading a good novel. I discovered allrecipes.com about a year ago and enjoy adding some of the best dishes to My recipe box.
My favorite things to cook
I'll try anything. Like to grill, slow cook, love mexican food and southern cooking. One of my favorite vegtables is purple hull peas and I don't think anyone in Calif has ever heard of them. Ther're a staple in the south and really hard to find out here. I did find an excelant recipe for Remoulade Sauce a la New Orleans here at allrecipes.com, which enhances anything you put it on.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother was the best cook on this planet. I know a lot of you might make that same claim, but mine really was. We're talking '50s now. No boxes and cans. Everything from scratch. Homemade biscuits, pasta sauce that took all day to cook, orange marmalade with big chunks of cherries in it. Bread and Butter pickles that took days to make, homemade enchiladas and so much more. Boy, if I had just keep some of those recipes----of course in todays world if you can't whip it up in 20 minutes or less, no one's interested
My cooking triumphs
Chili I found here at allrecipe.com I get constant request for this chili. It attracts people that I never see on any other occasion. Some of the folks it draws to the house, I don't think I even know.
My cooking tragedies
Christmas Stollen---was a lot of work with a lot of ingredients, not already on hand and a complete failure. Never again.
