Puppy Chow II

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2010
Awful. This is extremely rich and messy. I had a lot of people tell me how delicious this is so I made it. I don't love the taste of powdered sugar, so maybe something else to coat it would be better. As it stands, I won't ever be making this again.

Shipwreck Stew

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2010
This is not great. The ratios are off somehow. I feel like maybe it needs more (and a better cut of) meat, maybe less green beans and more kidney beans. I'm just not sure about it. I had to double the water, as well. Probably won't be making this again without a lot of changes.

Dark and Sweet Rye Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2010
If I could give this 10 stars, I would! The time it takes is definitely worth it. I always make a double batch so that I actually have some left for the next day. Add a little extra yeast to make it a bit fluffier - 1 tsp. (1 pkg yeast = about 1 tbsp active dry yeast). I make this into 4 round loaves (so 8 from a double batch) and cut crosses in the top. I also top them with oatmeal, steel cut or old fashioned, after I butter the top, before baking.

Mushroom Lentil Barley Stew

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2010
I liked this recipe! It makes a lot, so for just two it was a bit much, but luckily it freezes well. Definitely cut the pepper! Make sure to use a fresh onion, as well. You can sautee the onions and mushrooms beforehand to get some more flavor out of them. I also added extra mushrooms, because I love them so much! Very hearty, healthy, and rich. Will for sure be making this again.
