I live outside of Edmonton Alberta, with my Husband, My Mother in law (unfortunately yes) and my 95 year old grandmother in law, this makes for an interesting and sometimes frustrating home life. food can be touchy issue with grandma preferring anything simple, (plain chicken and mashed potatoes is her idea of a good time) and my mother in law favors greasy take out chinese food. yup, you guessed it they are the furthest thing from foodies. so finding food that we can all like, including my husband who has a cooked vegetable aversion, and myself who loves to experiment in the kitchen can be troublesome.
My favorite things to cook
I cannot pick a favorite, I love so many different kinds of food, i love to experiment and try new things. I am a huge fan of fresh ingredients and I love to pick something up that I have never tried before and come up with a meal around it. Also I love cheese, any kind of cheese. feta or mizithra being two of my favorites.
My cooking tragedies
When I was quite young, junior high age, I made a cake. I had made a handful prior to this with out any help and they turned out just fine but this cake had other ideas. I had mixed up the batter, baked it and iced it (always with homemade icing) it looked amazing and i was proud of myself. My family had it after supper that night for desert. when my dad cut into it...it leaked... yup, leaked. but being the youngest baby of the the family with three older brothers who loved me dearly they all 'manned-up' and ate the cake. with big smiles on their faces.....the next day I busted them throwing a soggy cake in the garbage, trying to hide it from me so as not to hurt my feelings. what great brothers.
