I have only gotten into cooking a few years ago but wow I sure do love it! I have been missing out for awhile. I just recently started baking as well! When I am cooking I almost feel like an artist if that makes any sense :-)
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking what people want!! Ok ok I actually don't have a favorite yet. I do like making dishes I had in restaurants or as a child seeing what went into it and trying to make it better to my own tastes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My sister is vegetarian so at Thanksgiving I always cook the Turkey (and pretty much everything else) but she ALWAYS had the green bean casserole and the special stove top stuffing.
Summers during grade/middle/high school our dad would always make ramen for lunch. We had this down to a science of the perfect blend of extra seasonings we would add and the exact timing of everything. Even had a special pot we used and our designated bowls. To this day the thought of ramen will always make me smile :-)
My cooking triumphs
I made Carrot Cake!! Afterwards i realized it really wasn't that difficult. I have also made steamed won tons! The only reason that was a bit tricky was the dough kept sticking to my fingers. Not sure what I have done that would be considered a triumph except that so far (knock on wood) everything I have cooked/baked has not been burned and everyone has loved it...that a darn good accomplishment i think.
My cooking tragedies
I was making beef stew from scratch for the very first time. I got everything into the crock pot and went to work. When i came home I was expecting that my house would have this wonderful aroma of my cooking stew but no...I ran into the kitchen to find that my crockpot somehow blew an internal fuse.....so depressing having to throw all that away.
