I grew up fiddling around in the kitchen. I loved to bake as a child, and got so good at making Chocolate chip cookies I could do it with one measuring cup and have the dough made in less than 10 minutes! Now years later I cook more than I bake, with lots of substitutions and experimenting. My diet, and the diets of my children keep me on the hunt for good recipes: many of us are gluten free, and I also eat nearly fat free because of a health issue.
We are a busy household with 6 kids still home ages 17- 10!
My favorite things to cook
Lots and lots of veggies! cold salads, raw trays with dip, roasted, baked, you name it, if it has veggies I am in! I also love to experiment with grilling and roasting meats when there is time.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Up until two years ago we did not eat turkey on thanksgiving, but used a much worn and loved recipe cut out of a magazine for a rolled pork roast stuffed with garlic onion jam and dried cranberries. We added turkey now because I can no longer eat pork.
Every 4th of July we have a shrimp boil from a recipe here on the allrecipe site.
My cooking triumphs
Anything I can make that is completely gone at the end of supper!
My cooking tragedies
When I roasted my first turkey while I was in High School I left the plastic bag with the giblets inside.
I cannot make real homemade fudge, in spite of my home ec teachers efforts, I failed it 3 times- just couldn't get the timing
