Black Bottom Cherry Cheesecake Bars

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2013
I tried this recipe after seeing it in a magazine and am happy to see it again on this site. The directions are very accurate and following them will yield fabulous results. The black bottom layer was absolutely perfect - rich, fudgey and moist. The cheesecake layer was also great. These would make a perfect addition to your holiday dessert table.

Beerbecue Beef Flank Steak

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2013
Three out of four in our household liked this. One thought the cinnamon and allspice were too much. I personally liked the addition of these spices and the depth of flavor they gave to the dish. Maybe next time I will reduce them so we will all be happy. It was a very good meal and I will definitely make it again.

Oven Roasted Parmesan Potatoes

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2013
I was looking for a new recipe for roasted red potatoes and I couldn't be more pleased with this one. I used about a tablespoon of oil to coat the baking pan. I chopped the potatoes (husband's personal preference) and simply mixed with the cheese and spices, and spread onto baking pan. Per the instructions, I roasted for 20 minutes, stirred them and continued roasting for additional 20 minutes. They were absolutely delicious and we all (4) enjoyed them! This was an easy, enjoyable recipe that I will be making again!

Mojo Grilling Marinade

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2013
This is a good marinade. We used it on chicken and everyone liked it. I substituted orange juice concentrate to give it a stronger citrus flavor and was pleased with the result. The extra sugar in the concentrate gave a nice caramelized finish to the grilled chicken. We will definitely make this again - maybe with pork tenderloin.

Creamy Chicken Lasagna

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2013
While as written this recipe makes an average meal, but with a few modifications it could be great. For example, if you are stewing the chicken, why not use the broth instead of using water and bouillon? Also, definitely add some spices: Italian seasoning, garlic, onions, green peppers, etc. I also used 9 noodles and a little more broth with the chicken & cheese mixture. With these modifications I would give it 4, maybe 4 1/2 stars.

Rich and Creamy Potatoes Au Gratin

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2013
I really wanted to love this recipe, but after making it twice I can only say I liked it. If I am going to justify the cost of the Gruyere, I have to LOVE it. It was easy to prepare: I only boiled the potatoes for about 5 minutes, and the layering process was a breeze. But, the final product is merely a mediocre, bland dish. And in our house, a $20 side dish needs to be FANTASTIC!

Butter Brickle Frozen Delight

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2013
If any recipe on this site deserves 5 full stars, this it it! I make a dessert at least once a week for our church community group and they love to sample the weekly bounty. I can assure you that everyone voted this as the best dessert! Comments ranged from, "this is better than the cheesecake factory, the only way this could get better would be to eat it in bed, quit your day job and bake", etc. I followed the recipe exactly, except I toasted the pecans before adding to the brickle mixture. I froze in the deep freezer over night before serving. Yes, this is a very sweet dessert - but hey, it's dessert. Make a pot of coffee and enjoy!

Garlic Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2013
Three stars for ease of preparation and readily accessible ingredients. Two stars for taste. The coating was good, but the chicken needed a sprinkling of salt. 425 was too high for my oven, 375 would have been plenty - the chicken was almost burnt. I was so glad I lined the pan with heavy duty aluminum foil. Otherwise I would have had to throw the baking sheet away! Not sure why there are so many 5 star reviews for this recipe...

Crab Crusted Grouper

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2013
We picked up some fresh grouper on our recent beach trip and decided to try this recipe. Based on the glowing reviews we were expecting a fabulous dinner. We were disappointed; the recipe was mediocre at best. The fish is so mild that without the topping, it borders on being bland. Definitely use the topping - it's the best part of the recipe. A little salt, pepper and garlic added directly to the fish would be helpful too!

Mayonnaise Biscuits

Reviewed: May 30, 2013
We really enjoyed these biscuits. The method of mixing and dropping went quickly and we had fresh, hot biscuits in less than 20 minutes. I prefer a rolled, buttermilk biscuit, (Chef John has a GREAT recipe) but these are very good when you are in a hurry.

Chipotle Crusted Pork Tenderloin

Reviewed: May 29, 2013
OK, it's like this: the flavor COULD be excellent if not for the excessive use of chipotle chile powder. 3 tablespoons is just plain crazy. Based on several reviews, I only used 1.5 tablespoons and it was still too much. Two teaspoons would be plenty. Maybe it's a typo? I used boneless chicken thighs which was a good choice.

Blooming Onion and Dipping Sauce

Reviewed: May 16, 2013
We had recently received a large bag of Vidalia onions, so I was looking for a recipe to use them. This recipe was absolutely wonderful. A couple of the onions I used had a bad spot, so I had to improvise and forgo the "blooming" technique and just go with onion rings. The batter for the onion and the dipping sauce were both amazing! The only change I made to the batter was to use buttermilk instead of sweet milk. Try this - you won't be sorry. If the "blooming" technique seems intimidating, you could always make onion rings! YUMMY!

Zesty Lemon Loaf

Reviewed: May 1, 2013
This is the best recipe I have tried for lemon cake. The texture is velvety smooth and the taste is absolutely spot on. Just the right amount of lemon. Follow the recipe exactly, especially the Grand Marnier (it's worth the splurge). If you like lemon cake, you'll be in heaven!

French Silk Frosting

Reviewed: May 1, 2013
This frosting is absolutely divine! It is light and fluffy and spreads beautifully. In my opinion it has just the right amount of chocolate. I prefer a lighter taste, not too dark. I made no changes except to scale to adequately frost a three layer cake. This is now my favorite chocolate frosting recipe. I see/taste no reason to look for another recipe. Thank you for sharing!

Pork Tenderloin Diane

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2013
Followed the recipe exactly, but no one in the house liked this - not even a little. The cook time was off. I sliced the pork and flattened it, but after cooking the instructed amount of time, the centers were still raw. We didn't care for the combination of flavors either. There are too many other great recipes for pork tenderloin. We won't be using this recipe again.

Stabilized Whipped Cream Icing

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2013
Using this recipe as a guideline, the end product was a success. I did not use the microwave - instead I combined the water and gelatin and gently warmed over the stovetop. I also substituted confectioner's sugar (1/4 cup) for regular sugar. Otherwise, I followed the recipe. The "frosting" was indeed more stable than normal whipping cream and was delicious on a strawberry cake - very light. With modifications to the recipe, I'd give it a 5 star rating.

Chili Rubbed Pork Tenderloin With Apricot Ginger Glaze

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2012
WOW!!! This is one of my new favorite recipes! It is absolutley wonderful. The only change I made, which was a personal preference and no reflection on the recipe, was to use pineapple preserves in place of apricot. I broke the rule and served this to company without preparing in advance - boy was I glad I trusted the many positive reviews. My company raved over it and my husband and children requested that it be added to our normal dinner rotation. "You can make this again, soon."

Chef John's Crab Cakes

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2012
This is an excellent crab cake recipe - heavy on the crab, light on everything else. In fact there was so much crab, and so little filler, I had a difficult time forming the cakes. But once they were formed and in the pan I left them alone until they had a chance to brown. Then I was able to successfully flip them to brown on the other side. The only ingredient I added was chopped scallions. I served them with Remoulade Sauce a la New Orleans, also from this site. Thanks Chef John!

Remoulade Sauce a la New Orleans

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2012
This is a wonderful recipe! I prepared it as written, leaving out only the olives since I didn't have any. I served it with Chef John's Crab Cakes, also from this site. Couldn't have been any better! My daughter liked it so much, she ate it on a hamburger!

Lisa's Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2012
This recipe is wonderful! It makes a moist and delicious cake and is quick and easy to put together. I frosted it with Fluffy Peanut Butter Frosting, also from this site. A match made in heaven! I followed the recipe exactly and found no changes were necessary, even the bake time at 1 hour was spot on for my oven.
