My cooking? Trying to balance healthy cooking with flavour and tradition. I love real butter and sugar in baking and will not compromise on it, so I balance it out by just making the rich, real thing less often. Trying to balance a busy lifestyle with my need to try gourmet dishes made from scratch. To me, a healty diet is lots of fresh vegetables and fruit. I'll go to lengths to avoid canned and heavily processed foods as much as possible. No time to make a tomato sauce? Then just toss the chunks of fresh tomatoes right on the pasta with olive oil and parmesan, and season with salt, pepper and maybe a handful of herbs.
My favorite things to cook
Good old chocolate chip cookies (with real butter of course). Can whip off a batch of these in 1.5 hours, from start until the last pan is washed.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cantonese. Homestyle cantonese cooking is mostly about bringing out the natural flavours of the food. The freshness of ingredients is important, as is perfection of simple techniques.
My cooking triumphs
Three perfect cheesecakes for a company afternoon coffee break.
My cooking tragedies
Asked to bring a side vegetable to a small girls night gathering, I made roasted red onions with green beans - huge wedges of fragrant caramelized red onions - and forgot that 3 of the 5 girls there didn't like onions.
