Beef and Noodles in Crockpot

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2011
I have been making something similar for years. I noticed several reviews mention that the sauce was too thin. What I have done is put in a package of dry onion soup mix instead of the condensed onion soup and it comes out less "soupy." Another thing I tried is to put the uncooked noodles in the crockpot with the beef mixture about 45-60 minutes prior to serving and cook the noodles with the beef in the crockpot. The noodles soak up some of the sauce and it reminds me of the beef and noodles my uncle (a caterer/butcher) makes. When I did that, I ended up adding a little beef broth so there was enough moisture. I serve the beef and noodles over mashed potatoes and my finicky children even ate it. This recipe is hard to beat when you want an easy meal that is hearty when you come home from a long day at work. I have added a little red wine or worcestersire as a variation and black pepper and that gives it nice flavor too.

Rotisserie Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2011
This was wonderful, I didn't change a thing. Tasted like the rotisserie chicken you can get at the grocery that my kids rave about, but really fresh...mmmm

Brussels Sprouts in a Sherry Bacon Cream Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2011
Mmmmmm...the sauce is delicious. I used onion instead of shallots and button mushroom instead of crimini because I couldn't find them at the grocery (but I don't think it radically changed the flavor). My husband is not normally a fan of brussel sprouts but loved these. The leftovers were great too! Definitely a hit at our house.

Strawberry Angel Food Dessert

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2011
This was an excellent and easy recipe. With the cream cheese, it tastes a little like cheesecake, which is my husband's favorite dessert, but this is so much easier than cheesecake. I made it just as the recipe stated and thought it was great...I am sure it would be hard to improve.

Slow Cooker Lentil and Ham Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2009
I did this over the stove (simmered for an hour or so) rather than the crockpot since we were having it for lunch and it was excellent! Also, instead of the water and tomato sauce I used tomato juice because I had it on hand. I really think that it was seasoned just right.

Easy OREO Truffles

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2011
This really deserves 5 starts...so easy and so impressive! I followed the recipe EXCEPT I added a couple of tablespoons of shortening to the melting chocolate; a trick I learned to make really smooth chocolate when making chocolate covered strawberries and pretzels. Who doesn't love a recipe with only 3 ingredients??? I can't wait to try variations suggested in the other reviews!

Caramel Popcorn

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2010
Helpful tips from other reviewers made this really easy. I used 3 bags of microwave popcorn. Make sure you dump the popcorn in a bowl so the unpopped kernels fall to the bottom of the bowl. I put everything in a paper grocery bag and stirred and shook the bag and put back in the microwave for about 30 seconds to warm it so the carmel coats well. You may need to microwave a couple of times to make sure it coats well. Then I pour it out on freezer paper until it hardens. It was a hit when I made for my kids classmates at school!

Too Much Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2009
I get so many compliments on this cake. I put the ganache on top and I make a rasberry sauce using raspberries, lemon juice, sugar and water and drizzle it on the plate before I put the cake on the plate like a fancy restaurant might do prior to serving. The raspberry chocolate combo is great!

BBQ Pork for Sandwiches

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2010
Mmmm...everyone loves this recipe and it is so easy. I actually smoked pork tenderloin (I like a lean cut) overnight on my gas grill at 200 degrees using hickory chips on the hot side and meat on the cold side and put it in the crock pot, then oven to finish it up the next day. This is so easy to do on a gas grill...I put it on in the evening and just made sure the temp stayed around 200 and took it off in the morning. I have made it without smoking it first and it is delicious either way. However, my mom swears it is so much better when I smoke the meat first.

Country Green Beans

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2011
I used several slices of bacon instead of ham and omitted the water and they were delicious! I will make sure I try them with ham but I happened to have bacon on hand and several of the reviewers preferred it that way. One time I was cooking for a crowd and they were ready too early, so I put the pan of green beans in the oven until everything else was done. Surprise...even better when they were just slightly browned so now I do that intentionally.

Lemon Cream Pasta with Chicken

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2010
Mmmm...delicious just the way the recipe was written. I used what I had on hand and substituted 3/4 cup milk and 1/4 cup butter for the heavy cream (suggested as a substitute on another website). Thanks for the great recipe, even my kids loved it.

The Best Potato Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2010
Awesome! I didn't have black olives on hand so I didn't add them and just cut up some pickles in substitution for the relish. I chopped up the perroncinis and I think they really add a nice flavor.

Jo's Rosemary Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2010
This is the best! It does taste just like Macaroni Grill like the other reviewers said. I don't have a bread machine so I used the comments from previous reviewers to make by hand. I put mine in the pan but dusted the pan with corn meal before putting in the dough and I brushed with olive oil and dusted with salt before baking. Dipped in olive oil with cracked pepper. This deserves more than 5 stars!!!

Spicy Bean Salsa

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2009
This salsa is excellent. I used fresh tomatoes, frozen corn, fresh jalapeno, just because I prefer fresh ingredients, although, it is awesome as is. I have brought this to several potlucks and I get so many requests for the recipe. I hate to admit how easy it is to make.

Best Bourbon Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2014
Excellent! Like many of the other reviews, I substituted chicken stock for the juice. I didn't have minced onion so I put in about half a chopped onion. The other thing I did was just to throw all of the ingredients in the crockpot, except the cornstarch. When the chicken pieces were cooked, I took them out temporarily and whisked in the corn starch. Then I added the chicken back in and let it simmer for a few hours more. I think that cooking it in the crockpot keeps the chicken moist. So easy and I normally keep all the ingredients on hand.
