Stromboli

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2009
This was very easy to make, but not a big hit in our house. BAJ complained the whole time about the beef, but he did eat his entire serving. I just didn't like it, but I'm not such a great test case these days. I made a few substitutions... I used a cubanelle pepper instead of a bell. I omitted the pepperoni, and used spaghetti sauce instead of pizza sauce. There's a picture on allrecipes, and their creation looks very different from mine... perhaps a slice of ham might have changed the texture/flavor instead of the diced ham I used. I also folded my dough in half, instead of creating a log like a typical stromboli... this made it VERY difficult to cut. I also found that this got overcooked, and came very close to burning after 20 minutes at the recommended temperature. Soo, maybe I'll make a stromboli this way again, but not with this particular filling.

Chili Rellenos Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2007
This was ok, but the flavor isn't for us. I'll admit to making the changes suggested (I used a 5 oz can of evap milk and no additional milk, an additional egg and used enchilada sauce instead of tomato sauce), but it may have been that I used chopped chiles that was really the problem. Thanks for something new to try!

Pleasant Pork Chops

We liked this, and found it to be very tasty. It took a really long time to make, due to the hour of cooking time. I'm curious how this would come out if done in the crock pot. Thanks for the recipe!

A great idea, but this tasted way too much like canned crab (I know, that's what it is!!) for me.

Pesto Chicken Florentine

Reviewed: Aug. 20, 2006
I wasn't thrilled with this. I wish I had added some tomato as planned... I forgot. It made WAY too much for the two of us... it was relatively easy, and I was very pleased with how the chicken turned out (I took advice from here and seasoned it with pepper and Italian seasoning), but I thought the dish was bland overall.

Baked Garlic Parmesan Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2006
We enjoyed this recipe a great deal. It was very easy to make (and quick!) and very tasty. I had this over pasta with sauce, while my husband had it as a chicken parm sandwich. After baking it, we put the chicken on a roll, topped with a few slices of mozzarella cheese, and broiled the sandwich for a few minutes. We also baked the chicken for only 20 minutes, since we had three breasts. Thank you for posting!!

Alice Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2006
This was a very easy to make recipe and I enjoyed it a lot. I made a few modifications... When sauteeing the mushrooms, first I used canola oil to which I added chopped garlic. Then I realized the garlic was starting to burn and the shrooms were sticking, so I added a splash of white wine. I also cooked my bacon in the microwave. FYI, the recipe doesn't really need a whole bottle of honey mustard salad dressing. It's to taste as you serve; I used a few splashes and my husband heavily drizzled his.

Pork Chops with Raspberry Sauce

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2006
I liked this a lot. The raspberry reduction did have a slight taste of vinegar to me, but I enjoyed it despite that. It was really easy to make, but I didn't have any sage on hand. I will try to make the same recipe with chicken! Thank you for posting

Little Meat Loaves

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2006
My husband gave this "3.5" and I give it "4.5" so we split the difference. He is not a big beef fan, so that he enjoyed this recipe says a lot. It was very moist and tasty. It tasted like neither sausage nor ground beef. I did make a few changes. I was out of ketchup, so used an 8oz can of tomato sauce in its place. This worked well. I also sprayed the pan with Pam. It's still very messy. I didn't use a muffin pan as suggested, because ours needs a good cleaning first. I will definitely try that next time. Thanks for a great one! This is surely a keeper in our house. (Added: We now use this mix ALL the time. We freeze it in thirds, and use it to make not only meatloaves, but also hamburgers and meatballs. We love this recipe!)

Slow Cooker Maple Country Style Ribs

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2006
The house smelled great when I came home. I was super excited to eat this delicious smelling dish. Alas, I was held up and came home later than expected. The ribs cooked for an hour more (darn professor!) than the recipe stated. However, if the ruined version of this recipe is an indicator, the meat is super tender (too much so after an extra hour, but I bet it's great when cooked properly!), and very flavorful. This was also a super easy recipe to put together. Thanks for posting!

Easy Easy Casserole

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2006
We weren't thrilled with this recipe. It was pretty easy to make (once the potatoes were peeled and cut, that is), but the flavor wasn't anything special for us. I did not have a problem with the potatoes cooking, and I cut some of them about 1/4" thick. Thanks for something new, though.

Eggplant Parmesan II

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2006
Easy and tasty! I followed the directions almost exactly, although I did adjust some of the amounts for two people. I followed some of the advice here and put salt on both sides of the eggplant slices. I rinsed after I had prepared everything. I used jarred sauce...Ragu's Chopped Tomato, Garlic, and Olive Oil. It was a perfect choice. I think the slices need to be thinner than I made them, as eggplant parm is usually softer than mine came out. However, it was great for my first attempt and I will make this easy recipe again. Thank you for sharing!

Baked Soy Lemon Chops

We really liked this dish. It was very salty, but that may have been because I halved the meat, but not the marinade. However, the suggested mashed potatoes was a great way to cut the saltiness. I also served it with Broccoli with Lemon Almond Butter (also from allrecipes). My husband and I both really liked this meal, and it is in the permanent collection. thanks for sharing!

Holy Smoked Bacon and Mushroom Penne

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2005
We really enjoyed this recipe. It was easy to make and tasty too. I cooked the bacon in the microwave to try to reduce the amount of grease left in the pan. I also cooked the garlic in olive oil first, then added the bacon and mushrooms to that. Then, I added 2 cups of chicken broth and 1 c (or so) of white wine. I did find that the mixture took a very long time to reduce... I just mixed it all in when the pasta was done. So, our sauce was a little watery. Thanks, Onyx!

Chicken Milano

Reviewed: May 9, 2005
Great! I made a few modifications. In addition to salt and pepper, I added some Italian seasoning to the chicken. I recommend that you cut the chicken before cooking. It will reduce your cooking time significantly. I had mushrooms on hand, and really wish I had added them, they would have been great. I wish the sauce was a little thicker--when you add it to the chicken broth, it becomes somewhat thin, but the taste is outstanding. I also added some grated parmesan cheese to the cream sauce, as was recommended to thicken the sauce, but I don't think it helped there, but might have done something to the flavor. Peas would also be a good addition. I used fresh fettucine, as I know it cooks so much more quickly. Finally, I used olive oil rather than butter and canola instead og vegetable. Thanks Holly!!!
