Hearty Split Pea Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2014
This is my favorite split pea soup recipe. If I have the time, I make it over 2 days by making the broth from a ham bone, onion, any leftover vegetable, etc. simmered for several hours. I toss all the junk in the now made broth except the ham. Let the broth cool in fridge or in my case on my porch in these cold days. Skim the fat. It's wonderful broth to use in place of the water and broth listed. I then use the rest of the ingredients from this recipe. If I don't have time, I go with what's listed. I've made it in both slow cooker (8+hours) and stove top (3-4 hours). You can't beat it, and as other reviews say....don't skimp on the milk or cream!

White Frosting

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2014
My 87 year old mother called this "flour frosting." I agree with the comments on preparing it. Important to whisk milk and flour before it goes in sauce pan. It also makes a lot. I halved it to cover a bundt cake, and it was perfect. I used 2 heaping tbs. of flour, 1 stick butter, 1/2 cup sugar, splash of vanilla. Beat for about 10 minutes and it looks like whipped cream. Enjoy!

Beef Sirloin Tip Roast with Mushrooms

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2012
This was my first sirloin tip roast that I bought on sale. With the increased cost of food, we miss our rib eyes and filets. Since there were no ratings, I was hesitant. Glad I didn't pass this one by! I used a rub from herb-rubbed sirloin tip roast from this site. I let the rub marinate all day. I used fresh mushrooms of 8 oz sliced button and 8 oz. sliced baby bellas. It looked like way too much shrooms, but it wasn't! I also threw in some sweet onion slices then covered with the dry soup and broth. Roasted about the 90 min., and it was perfect medium rare. The dry soup became a bit crunchy, which was great. Served it with Hasselback potatoes also from this site, and steamed broccoli. I give it 5 stars, and glad to be the first to rate it. Give it a try

Slow Cooker Beef Stew I

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2009
The reviews about this stew are right on the money. The deglazing was worth it. I've made many-a-beef stew in my day, but I think this was my best one ever.....
