About this Cook
My first cooking lesson was in my Grandmother's kitchen and there the love of food began. Baking, Canning, Main Courses I do it all. Over 5 decades the collection of recipes has become a passion. Stuffed vine leaves from the lady at the corner store, Ox-tail soup from my old Polish neighbor, you name it I've copied it down and made it. One of my greatest joys is that both my adult children have the same love of food and it's preparation, so we share a lot of laughter in the kitchen
My favorite things to cook
At heart I'm a baker, bread in all it's many forms, pastry, cookies and candy are most at home in my hands.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Christmas at our house is a multicultural adventure, Tourtiere and homemade Salsa served with Phrogy, Navratan Korma then followed by English Trifle.
My cooking triumphs
Cooking a traditional Turkey Dinner for 40 at Cub Scout Camp has to be one of my favorite cooking experiences. Having my children's French Language arts teacher ask for our Tourtiere recipe (just like her Grandma made) was one of my proudest.
My cooking tragedies
Learning to bake the perfect loaf of bread, took a few attempts and my brave husband was a sad tester for a while.

Hunnybunch's Special Apple Muffins
These muffins are a five for taste, but I'm glad I read the reviews first. The oven temp I used was 375 and 20 - 25 minutes for regular sized muffin tins. It was a very thick batter that needed to be tapped down in the tin before baking. A cup measure of apples would have been better as even Mac's can vary in size. Taking these minor things aside it's a recipe worth saving.

Strawberry Muffins
Followed the recipe exactly and found them bland and dry. I remade them with a few additions and they turned out much better. Here's what I did, first I added 1 tbsp fine lime zest, to the berries. Increased the sugar by 1/4 cup and oil and milk by 2 tbsp. each. Later I made a double batch and added 1 extra egg as well. So I think this was an ok base recipe.

Lazy Perogies
This is very similar to a recipe I use. I use the "Oven Ready" lasagne noodles and regular cottage cheese, thus skipping a step. For those that found them bland, try my version's addition of 1 tsp. of garlic powder and 1/2 tsp. celery salt to the cottage cheese mix, reducing the onion salt to 1/2 tsp. in this step. Of course serving with sour cream always helps.
