Gooey Butter Cake III

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2011
These were more like bars than cake - good but really sweet. I love sweet desserts but this had a really strong powdered sugar aftertaste. I think there is a version floating around that adds the juice of a lemon, I think that would cut down on the sweetness and add a new flavor dimension with the lemon. I'm still rating this 4 stars since it went over well at a recent gathering. thanks!

Roast Sticky Chicken-Rotisserie Style

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2011
This was really good - I think the trick might be to use a thermometer on the chicken. My chickens might have been too small because they turned out a bit dry. I think having a thermometer would keep from overcooking.

My Amish Friend's Caramel Corn

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2011
This is TO DIE FOR! I have made this twice now - once my ingredients were fresh, and the second time my brown sugar was hard as a rock but I still used it. Definately use fresh ingredients - my first batch was chewy and rich and carmelly and amazing...this is one of my top ten recipes from this site!!!

Honey-Lime Pork Chops

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2011
This is one of my favorite recipes from this site!! I can't believe some people thought this was bland - my husband was licking his fingers and telling me to open a restaurant! haha Try this one, I thought it was fabulous. PS - I usually don't bother making the sauce, the marinade is the real shining star here.

Pear Pie II

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2011
This is fabulous!!! I have made it a dozen times now and it always turns out! I always put the pears in first and the filling over the top so it's easier to work with. Don't forget the Almond Extract, this is what really makes it great!

Brownie Frosting

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2011
This did not work for me, the resulting frosting tasted fine but would not harden. It was okay, I was just wanting a hardened frosting so I could cut the brownies nicely and bring them to my daughter's school...this was super messy and gooey, even the next morning. I boiled for 30 seconds, removed from heat and added chips as the recipe stated - but mine didn't look like the other photos. Good luck!

Crab-Stuffed Filet Mignon with Whiskey Peppercorn Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2008
Wow, this was so amazing. I can still taste the sauce as I am writing this. I noticed other reviewers said that the sauce would never thicken up - so I used Beef Consumme instead of Beef Broth for the sauce. It is the same thing, it's just already thickened. This worked perfectly and if you cook the sauce long enough, it does definately thicken up. I cooked mine for about 40 minutes. Also, the recipe is very time consuming if you do it all in one shot. I would recommend stuffing the filets the night before. I used 2 king crab legs - and it was a perfect amount of crab. Also microwave your bacon for a couple minutes before putting on the steak so it's completely done. Wow, I can't wait to have company over so I can make this again.

Creamy Chicken and Wild Rice Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2006
Great recipe! I added finely diced onions, celery & carrots that I bought in the produce aisle at the supermarket, as well as LOTS of fresh chopped rosemary. I think the texture of the soup is absolutely perfect, all measurements can be used exactly as written with success. But what could make this a winning gourmet soup is the addition of fresh herbs - don't forget to add fresh rosemary and some parsley, it will make all the difference!

Easy Slow Cooker Ham

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2006
Wow - this was excellent, the best ham I have ever had, hands down. It was so juicy, and stayed that way for leftovers as well. And using the slow cooker was a perfect fit (mine is oval) for the ham, and I didn't have to touch it. The house smelled wonderful - my new ham recipe!

Three Meat Cannelloni Bake

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2006
Great finished product, but the recipe is a lot of work! I would take this in steps next time, cooking the beef & onions one night, or assembling many of these at once and freezing for later use. I don't think I will make this exact recipe again - it was just too much prep work for me. I may try cannelloni again except instead using what spices I have on hand with other cooking methods. thanks!

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2006
This is really great - I added the usual apple pie spices to mine for extra flavor. I might have baked mine a little too long - the apples were a little soggy. The flavor of this pie is excellent - and I love the way the crust turns out - kinda sweet & wonderful. thanks for a super recipe!

Great recipe - this was really good! Mine turned pretty dark on top - I think next time I will reduce the cooking time a little. But the filling was great - I added oregano & garlic to mine. thanks!

Wow - this was so good! I love a crunchy topping on top and this is exactly that! I found some apple cinnamon sweetened granola for the topping - wow, this was so amazing - I'm hoping it works as well with apples too! Thanks for this super recipe

Fish Tacos

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2006
I'm not sure why I'm the odd man out here - but we did not like this. I thought the combination of ingredients did not go well together. I am still giving 3 stars since the beer batter was wonderful - just not with the sauce & cabbage.

White Chocolate Cheesecake with White Chocolate Brandy Sauce

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2005
Wow, this is amazing. Very rich - almost too rich to eat. The flavor was fantastic & texture was so creamy and perfect. This will be my new permanent cheesecake recipe. I didn't even get to the sauce, it's really not needed!

Surprise Burgers

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2005
The flavor of this is unbelievable - the burgers were incredibly moist due to the pineapple, and the simple sauce is out of this world. I put a little of the sauce on the burgers as they were cooking and they were excellent. The only thing I might change next time is to use crushed pineapple in the center instead of a pineapple ring. The pineapple rings weren't very easy to bite into and I made quite a mess eating them. This is my new burger receipe - thank you!

Overnight Bubble Bread

This is an excellent recipe - the carmamel sauce is very easy to make and the consistency turned out perfect. The flavor of the caramel wasn't the best I've ever had, but definately the easiest to make. This will be my new recipe for quick & easy caramel buns - thanks Heidi!

Chicken Jalfrezi

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2005
Apparently I don't like Indian food - this was my first experience trying indian food and I thought it was absolutely horrible. I usually like spicy foods - but I like heat from fresh peppers, and this was a different kind of heat. I thought the tumeric was disgusting - it turned the chicken yellow which was unappetizing and also had a strange flavor to it. Sorry for the bad review - but I have to be honest, I will not be making this again.
