Simple Orange Glaze

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2011
Refreshing flavor! I added a bit of butter to make it a bit more creamy, and put it into a ziploc bag to pipe it on cranberry orange scones (from "simple scones" recipe on this site). Tomorrow, I'll be serving these to my daughter at breakfast...I already know she's gonna flip for 'em! :-)

Pear Honey Cranberry Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2010
All I can say is WOW! The pears make this dish truly special, in fact, I would add twice as many next time! It's still warm, so I'm super psyched to see the fam's reaction on Thanksgiving!

Herman Reunion Cheese Ball

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2010
This was excellent! And I am never that crazy about cheese balls, but decided to try it for Thanksgiving because I know it's an easy crowd pleaser. Well, was I absolutely pleased too! I scaled back to 2 pckgs of cream cheese, kept the worcestershire amt. the same, left out the hot sauce & parsley, and added 1 tsp. of garlic. Oh, I also added a little over a half stick of soft butter. I didn't freeze it, just put it in the fridge over night. Plus, I just mixed it by hand really well since it was so thick that I was afraid it wouldn't do well in my blender. I made the turkey feather version by sticking whole pecans into it like feathers & bistro-style pepperidge farm crackers for the tail feathers. My husband carved turkey heads out of cheddar cheese...we made two balls and they were absolutely adorable! My mother-in-law insisted on taking some pics before we devoured them! I will always make these for Thanksgiving!

Sour Cream Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2010
This was sooooo scrumdillyumcious! My husband and 4 year old LOVED it, especially the sugary part :P Aurora kept saying, "It's sooooo soft!" as she mooshed it between her fingers. haha The first layer of batter was really thin, so I wasn't able to have much of a top layer of batter. I put almost all the topping on, then glopped about a dozen balls of batter on top, then put the remainder of the sugar mixture on top. I also drizzled a little melted butter around on top, which I would probably add even more next time. My husband made the brown sugar himself by combining molasses with sugar, which gave it a FABULOUS flavor. The topping, being almost completely on top, wasn't too crumbly, it was soooo delicious. Also, I used half white flour and half wheat flour, and it only needed to be cooked for 35 minutes. I can't say enough how much my whole family loved it! I'm going to make this cake often :)

Pasta Con Broccoli

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2010
This was right up my alley because I loooove cream sauces. I quadrupled the recipe, added more garlic and parm, and I left out the tomato sauce. It's fabulous! Oh and after dinner, I steamed more broccoli and added it to the leftovers because I like more veggies in my dishes. I'm having the leftovers now...sooo delicious! A tip: cream sauces can be a bit funny when you reheat them, so I wet a paper towel and place it over the whole dish when reheating in the microwave.

Maple-Garlic Marinated Pork Tenderloin

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2011
This was AWESOME! It's officially being added to the three prok recipes I cook regularly. I didn't marinade it, I cooked it like I normally cook pork: 325 for 1 hour (this sears it) with salt and pepper, then added the sauce and cooked for about 45 more minutes (it was a large tenderloin). Also, I use less maple, about a half cup, mixed with 2 tbsp or so of dijon mustard and 6 large minced garlic cloves. SOOO delicious!

Garlic Spinach Balls

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2011
My hubby LOVED these. They were a little heavy on the bread crumbs for me, but he insisted I make them again after they were all gone. :) So I will give them five stars for him.

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2011
I've made this at least a half dozen times, and a little different each time and it always comes out great. First time, I followed recipe except I used beef broth. Other times, I've used chicken broth and added minced garlic and onions. I've also added various veggies since it makes a lot of an awesome gravy. Plus, I always sear it first with pepper and salt, like others siggest.

Mexican Mole Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2011
This recipe probably would have been milder but just as good as the tweaked one I made. And lemme say, it was AWESOME! I doubled the onion, the cocoa, and cumin, used 6 cloves minced garlic, and tomato sauce instead of soup. Oh and I used a can of diced tomatoes with green Chiles already in it. I spread half the sauce on the bottom of a baking dish, put 12 skinless boned chicken thighs on top, sprinkled salt and pepper on top and saved the other half of the sauce to spoon on the chicken individually. Oh yeah, I cooked it at 400 degrees until the temp was right on the thermometer...about 40-45 minutes. PERFECT!!!

French Beef Stew

Mad it exactly how it said except skipped the mustard because when I tasted it at the end, I couldn't imagine risking ruining it with mustard. SO satisfied!! My hubby absolutely loved it!

Mashed Potato Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2012
Made it for Christmas and everyone raved about how delicious it was! I only added butter, salt and cheddar inside and put the rest of cheese, bacon, and French onions on top. I rested foil on top so the French onions wouldn't burn. I let people add fresh minced chives and sour cream on top of their portions. Scrumptious!

Rosemary Roasted Pork Tenderloin

Reviewed: May 3, 2011
Great flavor and super simple! I used unsweetened apple sauce instead of the juice, about a lil less than a tbsp of rosemary (it can overpower dishes easily, in my opinion) and about 2 tbsp of dijon. Perfect!

French Dip Sandwiches

Reviewed: Aug. 20, 2011
My 5 year old said, "this is the BEST meat EVER! You have to cook it this way ALL the time." :-) So, it's a hit in the Newcomb household! I made some small adjustments like I used chicken broth instead of beef bouillon and eyeballed it, about 16 oz. of water, and some onion. Everything else was the same. Thanks for this amazing and simple recipe!

Sandy's Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2011
FIRST time baking a cake from scratch! What an enjoyable experience, from bowl to mouth. I'm tempted to never make a chocolate cake from any other recipe but this one. The fam LOVED it! It was very rich, just the way we like it! ;-)

Basic Cream Cheese Frosting

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2011
Best of two icings I've made to date! Super simple, too. I added two tbsp of milk for consistancy and another teaspoon of vanilla for stronger flavor, and I thought it was fabulous! My mother-in-law said it was a bit sweet, but my hubby and I agree that it's perfect. I still may reduce sugar next time, especially if it were a carrot or fruit-based cake.

Angela's Awesome Enchiladas

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2011
First time making enchiladas, and the fam gobbled 'em right up! I cooked the chicken, taco seasoning and some water in a crock pot from nearly 3 hours, shredded it, then returned it to the crock, added the cream of chicken, squeezed the whole lime into the mix, then assembled the enchiladas without having any sauce on the bottom of the dish. I poured some enchilada sauce pver it, but saved about half the can to be poured on individually. I also topped with a TON of cheese. The fam wants this added to the regular rotation. :-)

Simple and SO tasty. My 5 yr old loves the idea of calling the bowtie bats, but she calls the cheese bat poo. LOL Not appetizing, but cute. :-) Happy Halloween!
