Slow Cooker Marmalade Curry Chicken

Reviewed: May 14, 2009
ok. whenever I see such a well reviewed recipe that I think is terrible I generally assume I screwed up somewhere. maybe that is the case here, but this turned out awful for me. The chicken was barely edible.. very tough and dry, the sauce was unusable. Perhaps all due to too high of temp on my slow cooker. I cooked medium temp for about 4 hours. What I did taste I did not like the orange flavor and thought it was too spicy and I generally like hot things. We did not end up eating it and I am trying to salvage the chicken tonight. It is probably pointless as the chicken is flavorless on the interior (the outside was blackened with the sauce and had all the flavors) and too dry to really eat. I won't be making this again.

Clone of a Cinnabon

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2009
Wow. Absolutely worth the work. Didn't change a thing to the recipe, but did do as another reviewer suggested and after rolling the dough and cutting into individual rolls, left covered in the refrigerator overnight and baked in the morning - put in cold oven baked at 375 -I started with 20 min, but ended up baking about 30/35 min.. don't know the exact time. YUM! Will be making again. The Title of the recipe holds true!

Savory Vegetable Beef Stew

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2008
Really Great Stew. Just what I was looking for. I cut the recipe in half.. but left the canned broth, tomatoes and tomato sauce qty alone. Also left out the green pprs and added canned corn and green beans instead. Wonderful flavor. I will be keeping this recipe for future use. Thanks! (I happened to have diced Fire roasted tomatoes on hand so that is what I used)

Sue's Hot Fudge Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2008
Really Good. Wasn't Gritty at all as some reviewers said. Just follow the directions and you shouldn't have that problem. I did use evaporated milk, not condensed and I did still taste the carmel flavor that a lot of reviewers were commenting on, not sure what the fix of this would be. It still has a wonderful taste.

Chocolate Peppermint Candies

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2007
If you are looking for a good peppermint patty recipe you have come to the right place. These are great. Here might be some helpful tips: 1. if your dough is a bit on the crumbly side try rolling the balls with your hands slightly damp. be careful.. too much H20 and they will stick to your hands... just enough and it will help them keep their shape. 2. Some of the reviewers said they had problems with the patties falling apart or melting when they dipped it in the chocolate. I have two tips for this.. make sure the chocolate has cooled.. I would say at least 5-10 min. Also.. stick the patties in the freezer for a few minutes before coating them. I stuck the whole tray in and pulled them out a few at a time. I didn't have any problems with them falling apart or melting. 3. Finally I tried the chopstick idea for dipping the patties, but felt the sticks left marks in the surface of the chocolate...so I used a 2 pronged fork and it worked great for flipping the patties, for lifting them out and setting them down. It made it relatively easy. I made a double batch for Christmas and it made approximately 100 patties. Some of mine were too big though. These really taste wonderful!

Mexican Turkey Burgers with Pico de Gallo

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2007
I have to echo most of the other reviews. The burgers themselves were a bit bland and could use something.. perhaps garlic salt or some spicy ketchup? The pico de gallo sauce was fantastic and really made this recipe stand out. In fact next time I will make a little more of the pico de gallo because I couldn't stop eating it. Served with mexican rice and chips makes for a nice mexican style meal. Thanks!

Blackberry Cobbler

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2007
5 stars because it was just too easy and tasted wonderful. I was concerned that the batter was too thin before baking and thought I had done something wrong, but it came out great. I didn't have too many blackberries and used some blackberry jam as a sub.. While it worked the jam was just a tad too sweet. Thanks for the recipe

Thai Chicken with Basil Stir Fry

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2007
Phenomenal! I love Thai food, but don't get to eat it very often. This is a great easy recipe to make at home. I made the recipe as directed minus the mushrooms (my husband hates them) and I sub'd the mushrooms with bamboo shoots. I have never cooked nor have I eaten much basil. My husband thought that the amount of basil was way too much. I thought it was a little on the heavy side, but that may just be a personal taste thing. I still loved the taste and ate too much so giving it 5 stars anyway. Thanks for the recipe! (We did not think it was too spicy)

Savory Caribbean-Inspired Sweet Potato Cakes

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2007
Wonderful Flavor. I really liked these; however, the jalapeno I used was very spicy and if I were to do it over I would have left it out. Too spicy for me. Also I have never made this type of "cake" before and they didn't hold their shape as well as I would have liked. Not sure if there is a trick to it or not or if it just takes practice. They didn't completely fall apart. All in all a great recipe and I plan on making again. Thank you!

Chicken with Couscous

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2007
Great recipe. I really enjoyed, but keep in mind this is a Curry dish. If you don't like curry very much you might not like this. Also depending on the jalapeno you use this could be too spicy. The one I used was very hot and it made the dish almost unbearable to eat. I didn't have any couscous and sub'd long grain rice.. while this worked, sticking to the original recipe using couscous would have been better. Thanks for the recipe!

Mom's Brussels Sprouts

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2007
Pretty good.. although you could coat just about anything with brown sugar and butter and it would taste wonderful. This is about the 3rd time in my life to eat Brussels Sprouts. I kind of like them, but my husband thinks they are the worst vegetable known to man. The sauce was great. Really liked the Allspice/Nutmeg/Salt Addition. Thanks

Pineapple Pepper Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2007
Scaled this recipe back to make dinner for just me and my husband. Didn't change much except added a tad more brown sugar and replaced some of the ketchup with a Sweet Thai Chili sauce that gave it just a bit of a kick. Used just a regular chicken breast too. Turned out wonderfully. The sauce was addicting. Will be making again. Thank you! (Also used 1/2 rice wine vinegar and 1/2 white vinegar)

Pumpkin Dump Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2007
3 stars might be a little harsh on this recipe. Brought this to a family gathering and everyone said they really liked it; however, I was a bit disappointed. Although I am probably unfairly comparing it to another recipe that has a pumpkin mixure as the filling and a spice cake as a topping. The other recipe that I have tried uses sweetened condensed milk and cream cheese. It is far superior.. but with all the extra fat and calories why would it not be. I just thought this recipe was good, but not great.

Cream Peas

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2007
Only giving 4 stars because I thought the ratio of peas to sauce was not right. They were too runny/had way too much sauce in my opinion. That being said the sauce was tasty. After Cooking I thought they needed more salt, sugar and some added pepper. After my tweaking I was hooked and couldn't stop tasting them. Next time I will reduce the water amount at the beginning. (didn't have the $ for heavy cream so used the whole milk that I already had on hand)

Chewy Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2007
Absolutely wonderful. The peanut butter flavor was not overpowering. If you are looking for peanut butter cookies this may not be for you. As for the reviewer that said they became crumbly the next day.. they must have done something wrong or didn't store them properly.. mine were wonderfully moist several days later after storing in zip lock bags. My husband said they were the best and softest, chewiest, yummiest cookies I have ever made. We are making again. Also.. I used Dark Brown Sugar instead of light.. not sure if that makes any difference or not. Thanks for the great recipe!

Chocolate Caramel Brownies

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2007
These were great! Although if looking for a true fudgy brownie, I wouldn't use this recipe as a subsitute. I love fudgy brownies and wouldn't classify these as that, but for a wonderful chocolate/caramel dessert this recipe was truly wonderful. Lots of compliments and will definately make again.

Tangy Chicken with Pistachios and Fruit

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2007
Great recipe! Loved the flavor of the middle eastern spices. I didn't have pistachios or apricots so left them out. Used no sugar added peaches, so I added a touch of brown sugar and some cinnamon. It was wonderful. I did think an hour was a little long for the chicken, usually 30 min is enough for chicken at 375.
