Texas Sheet Cake V

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2013
This cake was so surprisingly moist! I loved it! I borrowed a pan and it was too big, and I didn't want my cake to turn out like a cracker, so I used my glass, rectangular Pyrex, baking dish instead, so it came out like a cake. It wasn't like a brownie at all. I also had to add 20 minutes more to the cooking time because it was not done after 20 minutes. I do, however, have to side with another reviewer that it needed more chocolate flavor. The next time I will put 1/2 a cup of water and 1/2 a cup of coffee to the cocoa mixture instead of 1 cup of water. I also looked at another reviewer's comment about the frosting being "fudgy" or too thick. I didn't want that, so I used shellann13's Best Chocolate Frosting on this site, which yielded a very creamy, chocolatey frosting. Altogether, simply delicious!

Sweet Lime Iced Tea

Reviewed: May 26, 2013
I thought this tea recipe was good, but I wanted more lime flavor, so I used 6 limes instead of 4. Next time I will also add a tad more sugar. I don't like supersweet tea either, but since I added more limes I needed a little more sugar.

Barbecued Beef

Reviewed: May 19, 2013
I used a bottom round instead of the chuck roast and I cooked it as directed, overnight in a crockpot. The meat was very tender and came apart easily while I was shredding it with a fork and it was not fatty at all (except for the fat on the bottom, which I removed before cooking). However, when I tasted it, it did seem to be a bit grainy or mealy (not sure how to describe the texture). Maybe it was the type of meat I used. Also, the ketchup mixture was a bit too acidic for me, so after I shredded the beef, I added some more brown sugar to the mixture before returning the beef to the mixture for the last hour of cooking. Hopefully, we won't notice the texture while eating it on the buns. Overall, I like the process of cooking the meat with the mixture over it.

Slow Cooker Chicken Tacos

Reviewed: May 3, 2013
The first time I made this, I thought it was a good idea and much simpler to throw everything in the crockpot and then, shred the chicken after done. I, however, did not like the cream cheese. After sitting, the mixture became too thick, whereas I wanted everything to be looser and identifiable. I've used this recipe many times thereafter. I just omit the cream cheese, then it's perfect for me and my family.

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2013
The fact that I always have chicken on hand because it's cheaper and I get bored with eating the same thing all the time, unlike my husband, I'm always looking for recipes and I searched and found this one. My entire family loved it, especially my youngest, who only likes chicken if it's fried. The only thing I noticed when preparing the sauce was that it was a little too sweet. So, I added some pineapple juice from a can of pineapples I opened and put in the refrigerator. It did the trick. When I made it again, I added diced onions, since I love onions, and I didn't think it would take anything away from the recipe. This recipe was a hit!

Garlic Red Potatoes

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2013
I thought it was pretty good, except I had to cook it about 15 minutes longer than the directions said to. When I tasted them after 30 minutes, some of the potatoes were still hard. It had just the right amount of spices. I thought I would taste the lemon, but I didn't taste it at all. I'm sure it enhanced the flavor of the spices and the potatoes.

Cinnamon Rolls II

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2013
They were delicious, with one exception: Some of the bottoms and sides were burnt, probably because of my electric oven. (I left it in the least amount of time because of my oven.) The next time I will leave them in the oven for 15 minutes instead of 20. It was hard rolling the dough into a rectangle, but I did my best. Also, it took longer than an hour for the buns to rise. They only started to rise when I sat them on a warm stove of 250 degrees. My icing came out perfect as well. My family enjoyed them though. And those who had burnt buns, ate around it. Definitely will try again and will try Cinnamon Rolls III.

Gourmet Microwave Popcorn

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2012
Well, I don't know how to rate this recipe. The popcorn was popping, but I guess I should have known not to put the popcorn in a paper grocery bag that had print on it. As I took the bag out of the microwave, the bag caught on fire. If I try it again, I'll make sure it's a regular lunch paper bag.

Fluffy Biscuits

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2012
I thought this was a very good and easy recipe, but I should have looked at the reviews first. Next time I'll use butter instead of shortening and buttermilk instead of milk. The biscuits I made had a good flavor, but tasted a little doughy. I probably should have mixed the batter a little more.

Costas French Market Doughnuts (Beignets)

Reviewed: May 30, 2011
My whole family, except for one, and their friends loved them! As other reviewers said, they do make a lot, but as the author said you can store any unused dough in the refrigerator up to a week, I think. Except for the powdered sugar, they weren't very sweet at all. Next time, I think I will put a glaze on them or fill some of them with a buttercream or custard. Then they'd be even yummier!

Mall Pretzels

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2011
These pretzels were delicious. For a 1st time pretzel baker or baker of any type of "bread", they came out quite good. Since it was my first time, I should have looked at the Allrecipe how to knead dough recipe and I wouldn't have used so much flour while kneading. However, despite the fact that I had to pull the pretzels off the aluminum foil (I didn't have parchment paper.) when they were done, they were good and moist. After brushing the pretzels with butter, I brushed melted butter on them and dipped most of them in a cinnamon/sugar mixture and the rest I sprinkled a little kosher salt on them. After that, they were ALL gone! They're not as good as mall pretzels (probably only because I'm a novice and have to improve on my technique) it beats buying them at the mall. This was very labor intensive and I really should have looked at how much time and how many steps it would take to make the pretzels. Very good though.

Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2011
Really good! I will use this recipe from now on when making au gratin potatoes. I will, however, shorten the cooking time to 1 hr since after 1hr 15mins it was burnt on the sides and bottom. I also diced my onions instead of using rings and I added garlic powder. Definitely better than the processed box kind and not as salty. Love it!

Spanish Chicken and Rice

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2011
I loved this dish! It was very flavorful. However, when I doubled all the ingredients to feed a family of five, which included doubling the salt, it was way too salty. I also didn't have turmeric so I used Spanish saffron which worked just as well. I will definitely make this dish over and over again except I will add less salt.

David's Yellow Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2010
I made this case for my daughter's birthday party, I followed the recipe to a "T" and it came out perfectly! It was supermoist! I wasn't too crazy about adding 8 egg yolks but the cake was really good.

Waffles II

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2009
I thought this recipe was excellent! I didn't have enough regular milk so I substituted it with vanilla soy milk and they were very tasty. You do have to make sure your waffle iron is greased though.
