About this Cook
Married young 30-something who works full time and is a mom to 5 cats. We live in Western Mas, which is a great location for food, because we get great fresh seafood from the coast (which is only 2 hours away) as well as fantastic locally grown and raised produce and livestock.
My favorite things to cook
I like to experiment with new twists on the classics. We love to eat "bar food" but also really enjoy great seafood or pasta. I also like to see how many new things I can do with a basic protein like chicken, pork tenderloin, or shrimp.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I come from French-Canadian and Polish ancestry, so a lot of what I cook and eat comes from there. I love to make homemade pierogi! OUr family's Christmas Eve tradition has been to have a variety of Polish food, mixed with some American. At my in laws', they do a number of French-Canadian dishes (meat pie, pouding au chomeur) and Ameircan food. It's a nice nod to our ancestry. When I was growing up, my mom would make huge batches of tomato sauce, golumbki, lasagna, chili or stuffed shells, and now I find myself making large batches of things and freezing them off or giving them away.
My cooking triumphs
First time I ever made baby back ribs (for a football party), made them without a recipe, and they were the best ribs I've ever EATEN....anywhere!! They were gone as soon as I put the platter out.
My cooking tragedies
Attempted to make potatoes au gratin for a holiday one year. Didn't peel the potatoes, and apparently didn't follow the recipe closely. After 3 hours of cooking, the cheese sauce turned gray from the potato skins and the potatoes themselves (although having been sliced super thin on a mandolin) were still raw!
